The Y community is seeking an enthusiastic, well organized, motivated leader of land and water group exercise. This person has the ability to grow their own team and programs in our YMCA featuring 3 studios. Must have experience in developing new class formats, diverse programs, coaching of staff and record keeping. Inherent understanding and knowledge in the area of group exercise programming. Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages the day to day programing of the land and water exercise. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Develops a high performing team of staff which delivers quality programs and services meeting member and community needs in group and water exercise.
- Recruits, hires, fires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures a high level of customer service which enhances the member, program participant and guest experience.
- Implements programs, assesses staff technical abilities, evaluates program results, identifies areas for improvement or development and implements plans to achieve desired goals and objectives in area of expertise.
- Assists in the development of the program area budget and manages the day to day programming to assure revenue, program service goals and expense targets are achieved.
- Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Teaches programs directly to members and participants in area(s) of expertise a portion of the time.
- Works on the floor in the fitness center as a fitness coach and/or personal trainer.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
Educational Background:
Degree in Health, Science and Recreation or related field
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in healthy living product area of expertise (i.e. group and/or water exercise, personal and group training)
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience
- Possess a current accredited and nationally recognized certification in multiple area(s) of expertise
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff and budgets to achieve established goals and objectives
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills
- Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Ability to manage and deliver programs to a diverse population preferred
