This position reports directly to the CEO providing strategic leadership infinancial development to advance the YMCA’s mission through annual giving, special events, government and foundation grants, including future endowment bequests and gifts.
Volunteer recruitment, training and development to increase volunteerism and an actively engaged fundraising volunteer Board of Directors and community members.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Participates in special events with prospect management, night-of engagement strategies and implementation strategies.
- Serves as primary staff to the Fundraising Development Committee. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.
- Manage a portfolio of Major Gifts prospects that are connected to their service area.
- Work collaboratively to develop donor portfolios (identifying, cultivating and soliciting) and community-based strategies for fundraising to support significant growth, retention and stewardship of Annual and Special Event Campaign supporters in our communities. Maintains database resource file on top community leaders.
- Help develop and implement a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain and motivate donors and fundraising volunteers.
- Create Association-wide giving strategies to yield supplementary revenue to reach goals and to enhance the culture of philanthropy in order to promote and solidify the YMCA as the region’s charity of choice.
- Assure proper planning, including goal setting, strategy identification, benchmarking and evaluation to support fund development. Develops systems and manages resources needed to carry out the fundraising plans. Establishes and monitors the financial development department budget for the YMCA.
- Develops appropriate fundraising policies and procedures for the YMCA.
- Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support. Assists in the planning and directs the marketing and communication plan; plans and oversee the annual meeting, annual reports, brochures and reports.

Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Accomplished professional with 3-5 years or more of fundraising experience with specific expertise in annual campaign and special events.
- Passion and commitment to the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility
- Experience with the ability to manage, motivate and develop individuals and volunteer teams.
- Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices and ability to monitor trends and to adopt best practices, where appropriate, to enhance Mission Advancement efforts.
- Demonstrated track record of setting and meeting/exceeding specific fundraising goals within the expected time period.
- Demonstrated capacity to build sustainable, philanthropic relationships with volunteers and donors that directly influence increased giving over time.
- Superior verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to adapt communication to the appropriate audience. Strong writing skills are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to be accountable for results, take initiative, as well as to be adaptable, resilient, highly organized, and detail-oriented
- Demonstrated collaboration and influencing skills with the ability to foster trust both internally and externally
