Under the supervision of the Sr. Director Aquatics/Safety, Lifeguards are expected to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and in the surrounding areas, as well as create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
- Completes related reports as required
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and staff
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool
- Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the State Health Department code
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival
- Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings
Skills/Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate
- Certifications Required - CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid
- Ability to maintain certification - level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $12.00 - $15.00
