The Rye YMCA has been an anchor institution in our community since 1914.  With a $9 million budget, 29 full time staff and over 280 part-time/seasonal staff, we serve over 10,000 members from Rye and the surrounding towns of Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont and Port Chester.  The Y has long been considered a cornerstone in the community and has strong support from a dedicated board and volunteer base.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors, this position supports the work of the Rye Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Finance provides direction and leadership for the Y’s finance and business operations. This position also oversees the YMCAs accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, the preparation of its financial reports and ensures a system of strong internal controls and maintains fiscal soundness.  In addition, manages the annual external audit, the 990 tax return and the preparation of information for outside funders. The Director of Finance will also provide leadership to the Y’s information technology services.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages all functions of accounting and business operations, ensuring that legal and audit requirements are met and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.
  • Hires, trains, and oversees assigned staff, providing direct supervision.
  • Manages the annual independent audit, the preparation of financial statements and the IRS 990 tax form.  Prepares or oversees the preparation of required audit schedules; maintains records; acts as liaison with audit team and YMCA Finance and Audit Committees.
  • In conjunction with the Investment Committee, oversees the Y’s Investments following established Board policies.
  • Establishes, maintains and/or monitors all banking and financing relationships.
  • Oversees and provides leadership to the annual budget process including: issuing guidelines and procedures; training staff, auditing budgets, overseeing data input and preparing reports.
  • Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard the YMCAs financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of outside reports and filings.
  • Oversees the month-end and year-end closings and the preparation of statements and reports.
  • Works with Accounting Assistant to manage to payroll administration including maintaining records and related systems.
  • Collects and maintains data on government contracts and grants as needed.
  • Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or equivalent; MBA or CPA preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Eight or more years of recent experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required including budget development, financial reporting, cash management and accounting.
  • Knowledge of, and expertise with, computerized accounting systems and standard business software; QuickBooks knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
  • Accounting experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and purpose of the YMCA

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • A professional image and the ability to work harmoniously with staff, volunteers, members and the business community
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $105,000.00 - $120,000.00
