The Penobscot Bay YMCA is looking for a creative, caring, and motivated individual to fill the Assistant Childcare Director position at our NAEYCE accredited early learning center. This is a tremendous opportunity to positively impact the lives of children and families through YMCA programs. At the Penobscot Bay YMCA you will create, facilitate, and implement curriculum, along with lead staff and directly impact the community you live in.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist with management of the early learning programs for the Rockport location, including the Childwatch Programs. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities.
  • Director oversite and management over afterschool programs in Camden –Rockport area.
  • Maintain NAEYC accreditation status.
  • Assists with the recruitment, hiring, developing, and scheduling of staff and volunteers as needed. Helps Director evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate staff to achieve goals.
  • Supports and budget for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. Maintain the quality rating system.
  • Assists with the management of program enrollment for all early learning programs.
  • Monitors upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment ensuring the physical environment is safe and supports healthy living.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Organizes special events for parents and children.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Assists with child care third part billing.
  • Provides a minimum of 10 hours of classroom coverage per week.
  • Helps facilitate monthly department staff meetings and relevant training as required by the YMCA and DHHS and Maine Roads to Quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the good of the organization. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of five years working experience with young children and two years in a related programming/management role.
  • Proven experience in early learning management issues and classroom management strategies.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and education and licensing requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Knowledge of Daxko and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, preferred.
