The Senior Head Swim Coach has responsibility for development of character, confidence, swim skill and strength within swim team participants, while coordinating a full season, age/ability training program, and building positive family relationships. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coaches and oversees practices, plans workouts and goals for each practice, and coordinates a strength training program, tailored to the variable skills and abilities of swimmers
  • Prepare and input meet lineups, overseeing individual and team entries
  • Attend Y Staff meetings, team coaches meetings, summer conference meeting and district meetings
  • Hire, train, schedule, support, and supervise assistant coaches
  • Oversee Parent Committee, attending monthly PAC meetings, and direct and assist them as necessary, and reporting parent volunteer hours to Aquatic Director
  • Oversees communication: website, newsletters, meet information, handbooks, flyers, program books, handbooks, publicity, meet information and team records, utilizing the marketing department and Aquatic Director when necessary
  • Budget responsibilities in YMCA budget as well as Parent Committee budget
  • Assist Aquatics Director as needed with other duties in the Aquatics Department and be prepared to be on call to assist Aquatics staff in the absence of the Aquatics Director
Skills/Experience: 
  • Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • At least two (2) years competitive swim coaching experience 
  • USA swimming Level 1 Certified Coach (preferred)
  • 3 years competitive swimming experience (preferred)
  • Energetic, patient and gives simple instructions
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and Safety for Swim Coach certifications or ability to obtain
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Budget experience required
  • Experience with Meet Manager 5.0, Colorado Timing System 6, and Team Unify preferable
  • Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional approach
  • USA swimming Level 1 Certified Coach (preferred)
