YMCA continue to serve in a meaningful way and is seeking a new CEO who has experience

The Upper Palmetto YMCA has grown in the communities of York, Lancaster and Chester County over the past 30 years. The Y has made significant impact during this period through various programs from heath and wellness to camping services. Beyond the physical facility foot print growth from 40,000 sq. ft. to 381,135 sq. ft., the lives impacted through health seekers grew from 2,500 to 44,000 units.

Aligned with this increase in population, the YMCA continue to serve in a meaningful way and is seeking a new CEO who has experience with creating productive and solid organization structures to provide resources and services in the communities. Candidates must have experience with staff leadership and development, success with increasing fundraising efforts by creating a philanthropic culture in the YMCA, must have experience in creating endowment fund. New leader will also ensure the volunteer leadership boards (Board of Directors and Branch Board of Managers) are reflective of the community served and has talents and skills to lead the YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following roles:

  • Advocate the Vision of the Y serving as a Caused-Driven Leader: Inspiring and mobilizing every community member and every Y staff member, program volunteer, board volunteer, and Y member—everywhere the Y has a presence—to make our communities stronger. Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers and be seen as an active and integral member of the community. Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y and be seen and respected as a community leader. Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards of the values of the Y.
    • Key competencies: volunteerism, values, community, collaboration, communication, relationships, influence, developing others, emotional maturity
  • Fiscal Management: Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position. Use high-level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading Y to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

  • Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: The ability to work effectively with board of directors, volunteers, community leaders and key staff to identify critical community needs and develop a strategic roadmap focused on organizational strategies. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the Y.

  • Improve Operating Performance: Partner with the board to identify issues and develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives to solve them. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and be able to quickly address issues that arise as well as forecast future needs. Manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.

Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree (required; non-negotiable).
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain via YMCA of the USA).
  • Experience with multi-location/site many counties/cities.
  • Experience with budget size over $5M.
  • 5-7 years of senior leadership experience in non-profit or similar industry.
  • Related graduate degree preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Benefits:12% Retirement Contribution once eligibility requirements are met. All other benefits are listed in the personnel policy and due to renewal (November 2019) the information is not available for the new hire at this time.

Salary: $180,000.00 - $205,000.00
