The NEOH Restoration Team Leader is full-time position based out of the Northeast Ohio Field Office located near Rock Creek Ohio. The NEOH Restoration Team Leader is part of a 3-person team that supports the implementation of ecological restoration projects throughout Northeast Ohio. This position is being posted with a 2 year start with employment conditional on funding support and the possibility of extension.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The NEOH Restoration Team Leader will coordinate with the Central Lake Erie Basin Project Manager to identify projects, develop workplans and oversee and direct the daily activities of the NEOH Restoration Team. This is primarily a field position working on TNC preserves and with project partners on ecological restoration in NEOH with a focus on survey and control of invasive species through chemical and mechanical applications. The Team Leader will also be responsible for equipment preparation, use, and maintenance; use of GPS unit and related devices; accurate record keeping and reporting; and communicating to staff, volunteers and the public about their work.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Supervises no staff but develops workplans and directs day to day activities of the NEOH Restoration Team.
  • Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development and fundraising targets.  
  • Networks with diverse groups, including land owners, conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members and the general public to recruit support for the Conservancy and publicize Conservancy programs/preserves.  
  • May work under minimal and/or distant supervision; may make some independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.  
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1 year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with natural systems.  
  • Experience recognizing plant and animal species. Particularly by winter twig ID.                  
  • Experience in ecological land management principles.
  • Experience operating and or repairing various types of equipment and machinery. (e.g. Argo, chainsaw, brush cutter, herbicide sprayers, hand tools, two-way radio
  • Must have a valid driver's license.  
  • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, pesticide applicator’s license).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 1 – 2 years related experience in custodial and ecological land management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some experience managing volunteers or entry level staff.
  • Experience managing and reporting on projects.
  • Knowledge/understanding of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation/conservation or similar field.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers).  
  • Experience using hand-held GPS devices and use of ArcGIS to produce maps
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
