Contributes to the achievement of strategic priorities by providing support for state and community operations and by providing technical assistance to staff and volunteers.  Manages projects, creates project-related materials, and determines resources necessary to complete projects.  May perform a combination of the following duties described below depending upon assignment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Works directly with volunteers and staff to ensure implementation of AARP activities in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse regions.  Assist, as appropriate, with information center activities, including coordination of educational activities and the delivery of volunteer recruitment and training.   
  • Organize volunteers to be at the table the day of the events for shows and people to attend the games.  Train volunteers about tabling and provided giveaways to the volunteers to give to people that engage with them.
  • Assists the Associate State Directors (ASD) and volunteers in the preparation and coordination of assigned legislative districts for the purpose of influencing policy makers and demonstrating support of AARP priorities during local, state and federal visits.  
  • Works with ASD on effective strategies for all activities and events, including special events such as health fairs, shred events, rallies, seminars, conferences and volunteer engagement meetings.   
  • Coordinates requests for speakers and manages community events calendar.
  • Helps with event planning logistics.  
  • Creates flyers, news releases, direct mail, training materials, and other resource materials to support AARP activities, including events aimed at volunteer engagement.
  • Assists in managing the AARP Satellite offices finances (budget, forecasts, expenses, budget tracking) and providing detailed, timely, and accurate monthly pending reports.
  • Organize and maintain all collateral material and premiums for the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse offices. 
  • Arrange member offerings, MOU management and manage flyer development, input to OGC.  
  • Assist with the intake of potential and new volunteers, which includes phone follow up and connecting people with volunteer opportunities. 
  • Helps manage events calendar on our website via event management tool.
  • Helps manage fulfillment requests and maintains the storage of AARP publications and materials.
  • Assists in the marketing, outreach and logistics for events and sponsorships.
  • Ensure that all current engagement events and member offerings are listed on the AARP NY state webpage in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Comfortable in navigating AARP’s systems and processes including the Volunteer Portal, Teradata, OGC’s MOUs, Cvent, Navigator and Print & Fulfillment.
  • Demonstrates AARP values in all interactions.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years of experience in project development, coordination, and implementation techniques; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well both written and orally.  
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, especially Facebook and Twitter
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, lead project teams, task forces, and to collaborate with and forge effective internal and external partnerships across groups and departments, connecting with and exhibiting a solid understanding of partnerships.  
  • Interest in issues affecting the lives of people 50+, including housing, financial security, guardianship, caregiving, health care, safe driving, and more
  • Travel may be required.
