Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Health and Wellness Director is responsible for the administration and management of the Health and Wellness Department. The health & Wellness Director will be responsible for demonstrating strong and dynamic leadership with the Health and Wellness staff, including group exercise, personal training and wellness center. In addition, the incumbent will instruct personal training and specialty classes. The incumbent will lead and provide direction that will ultimately result in the growth in the following initiatives and programs: Community Health, Diabetes Prevention and LiveStrong. Another key function will be to build strong, lasting relationships with members and employees that will build healthy lifestyles. This position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.
- Develops the annual operation objectives for Health & Wellness Department. Monitors the achievement of these objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure achievement of the objectives.
- Prepares the annual income and expense budget for the health & wellness department and assigned area(s) of responsibility. Administers the budge and exercises necessary controls to assure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position.
- Directs, plans, instructs, and promotes health and wellness programs. Actively pursues new trends and community opportunities in health and wellness.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, coaches, and evaluates all staff and volunteers related to program responsibilities. Conducts all appropriate staff trainings and meetings.
- Actively recruits and engages community partners and participants in the YMCA Chronic Disease Prevention program. Assures growth of the program and expanded role of the YMCA in Community Disease Prevention when implemented.
- Serve as the staff liaison assigned to appropriate volunteer committees and subcommittees.
- Directs the scheduling, maintenance and repair of all Health & Wellness Department facilities.
- Ensures all program operation is consistent with Association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems. Develops policies and procedures for specific program efforts as needed.
- Serves as a member of the total staff team with responsibility for the administration, promotion, and operation of the Branch. Participates accordingly in such projects as assigned, as well as staff trainings and meetings, core program teams and special events.
- Assume a leadership role in the Annual Campaign and the United Way Campaign assistingin fundraising events and sustaining campaigns.
- Works with the community to foster positive image to encourage good public relations.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings.
- All other duties as assigned.
- At least 2 years’ experience working in the health fitness field and two years teaching experience.
- Experience with group exercise program development and equipment maintenance.
- Must possess current ACE, AFAA, or YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification, and current CPR/AED and First Aid.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills for building effective partnerships and collaborations.
- Excellent team builder and team player; ability to work self-directed must be highly attentive to detail and follow through, resolve problems, be aware of deadlines and organize workload to meet them.
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner building strong relations with leaders in a wide variety of organizations in the community.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (excel, word, etc.)
- Ability to communicate the YMCA mission and programming to former, present, new, and potential members, staff, and community.
Salary: $43,250.00
