Under the general direction of the District Vice President, this position is accountable for the successful management of the Eastside Family Branch in accordance with policies established by the Corporate Board of Directors and the Board of Management of the Eastside Family Branch.  The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Creates and recommends objectives for the Branch in harmony and support of those of the Association.  Monitors the achievement of these objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure the achievement of these objectives.
  • Responsible for preparation of annual income and expense budget for approval by the Board of Management, corporate staff and Finance Committee.  Administers the budget and exercises necessary controls to assure operations are maintained within the approved budget.  When necessary, carries out adjustments in operations to assure a surplus from operations.
  • Serves as a leader of customer-focused membership service operation.  Provides exemplary leadership in membership recruitment, service, and superior retention efforts.
  • Serves as Executive of the Branch Annual Support Campaign, giving leadership to the Branch Board and achieving annual campaign goals.
  • Provides leadership to the growth of both the child care center and day camp.
  • Recruits and selects professional staff, in consultation with the District Vice President.
  • Supervises and appraises work of all exempt staff.  Provides opportunities with each staff member for a careful performance appraisal and career development potential.
  • Plans for and supervises the upkeep of the building, grounds, equipment and facility working with the Vice President of Properties; has particular concern for the safety of persons making use of the facility and the staff.
  • Develops and maintains contacts in the community with business and civic leaders, interpreting the work of the YMCA, soliciting their interest and support, and enlarging the scope of branch services.
  • Advises the Board of Management about the formulation of policy and is responsible for the execution of policies.
  • Supervises, hires, evaluates, and provides training for all general administrative personnel (clerical, custodial, etc.).
  • Develops and initiates grant requests to augment program offerings.
  • Ensures all program operations are consistent with Association procedures, including insurance, accidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems.
  • Actively pursues collaborative relationships with agencies, municipalities and school systems.
  • Participates in board committees and meetings as agreed upon with the District Vice President.  Active member of the Operations Leadership team, a key senior staff decision-making group.
  • Assures own professional growth through reading, study, conference attending, etc.
  • Participates in Association-wide assignments and special responsibilities as designated by the District Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.
Educational Background: 
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven years of YMCA experience or equivalent non-profit management experience.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Multi-team or Branch leader preferred.  It requires specialized competencies and successful experience and exposure to a variety of administrative and program fields.  The position involves the integration of the broad and complex line of diverse activities in a suburban branch including membership and program delivery, and supervision of Camp Eastside, a premier summer day camp.
  • Effective human relations skills and an ability to interact in the community and enhance existing collaborations are critical to the success of the operation.  Analytical, interpretive, and evaluative thinking in a variety of situations are a significant component of the position.  Ability to perform successfully as a member of the Operations Leadership Team of the Association is critical.
  • The Executive Director has primary accountability for the management of the Eastside Family Branch, in accordance with the Association's policies and goals and with general direction from the District Vice President.  This includes the selection, employment, and direction of a staff team to operate the facility and achieve the Branch's objectives; leadership of and responsibility to achieve annual fund raising goal; the development of an operating budget and control of the financial affairs in accordance with the approved budget; the maintenance of the physical property in top condition; the development and maintenance of a large and active membership; the selection and utilization of a strong lay organization; the establishment of long-range plans and objectives and deployment of staff to achieve them.  A philosophy and practice of total quality management and provision of services, which are highly customer focused, are essential.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $89,000.00 - $93,500.00
