The Senior Vice President of Programs will lead a team of directors, coordinators, and front-line staff to ensure the best-in-class in establishing, developing and oversight of our sports, camp, health & wellness, afterschool, preschool and aquatics departments. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, cause-driven impact and strategic direction of assigned areas. As a member of the leadership team, the Senior Vice President of Programs will create and embrace a diverse and inclusive YMCA community to grow our local impact, activate our global network and multiply our mission. This position will work in collaboration with the SVP of Finance and SVP of Strategic Advancement to ensure program quality, grant funding and consistency across the Association.
Programmatic Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day functions of assigned areas, while providing leadership and support to Youth Enrichment,Sports,Camp, Health & Wellness, Aquatics and Development departments.
- Design and establish Afterschool and Preschool programs within second year of employment in partnership with CEO and appropriate staff members.
- Direct and monitor strategies to ensure monthly and annual goals are met in assigned departments, including registration levels, year-over-year retention, penetration rates, new program establishment and participant progression.
- Ensure program portfolio fully aligns with association strategies, structure and quality standards.
- Continuously evaluate the scope of youth, teen, adults, and family programs to identify new program opportunities. Particular focus should be given to growing existing business lines while creating new ones.
- Build a network of program volunteers through effective recruitment, training and stewardship.
- Build relationships with community partners with specific focus on off-site programs, community facilities, public & private schools and parks & recreation.
- Build a culture of legendary program quality and experience in all assigned areas, including on and off-site programs, community partnerships and family events.
- Develop and lead strategies to ensure members and/or program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Partner with marketing and communications department to ensure effective promotion and visibility of all program areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead through the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Lead direct reports as an interdependent and unified Program Development team.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise a highly-skilled and trained team of full-time and part-time servant leaders.
- Utilize Association tools and standards in completing and administering performance evaluations and individual development plans.
- Plan and organize staff meetings to ensure consistent communications, directions and accountability.
- Manage payroll.
Operational Responsibilities
- Work symbiotically with the CEO, SVP of Finance and SVP of Strategic Advancement, implement and manage operating plans that promote program, grants and membership growth for the YMCA.
- Develop and manage annual budget. Demonstrate sound fiscal management skills and work directly with the SVP of Finance in staying within budgeted guidelines.
- Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community.
- Ensure safety and maintenance of facility, grounds and equipment to minimize risk to members, participants and the Association.
- Provide leadership and support to annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
- Attendance during evening board meetings are required.
- Perform all other duties required of you by the CEO
- Five years supervisory experience in a related field with comparable program growth.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, training and development of volunteers and staff.
- YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification or ability to attain certification within three years of hire.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
- Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Daxko and database management.
- High ethical standards and possess strong personal and professional integrity.
- Ability to successfully obtain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor), while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
