The Sr. Director of Development shares accountability for fundraising success with the Executive Directors of his/her assigned branches. Duties and responsibilities include: 

  • In coordination with Branch Executive Directors, cultivate and further enhance key relationships, communicating directly with major donors and prospects, and corporate/foundation/community leaders.
  • Collaborate with Branch Executive Directors and program staff to align fundraising and marketing strategies with program initiatives.
  • Plan and manage development activities with current donors and prospects with the capacity to give $2,500 and more.
  • Coach and train volunteers and staff in fundraising best practices.
  • Report fundraising progress to volunteer and staff leadership.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is a nonprofit organization with the goal of strengthening the foundations of community. Last year, over 3,500 contributors gave more than $4 million to the YMCA of Greater Richmond to fund its programs and services.  Nearly 300 volunteers gave their time to support YMCA development efforts throughout Richmond and Petersburg.  In addition, the YMCA has a comprehensive philanthropy program that includes capital and endowment development.

Educational Background: 
A bachelor's degree, and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in development, are required, including experience coaching and managing volunteers.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The successful candidate will have a passion for the YMCA of Greater Richmond's mission and the ability to effectively articulate the importance and impact of its work. 
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • The chosen candidate will be an organized strategic thinker with management skills, initiative, and adaptability. The ability to develop genuine relationships with a variety of constituents, including major donors, is required.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated personal success in donor cultivation, major gifts development, writing successful grant proposals and meeting fundraising goals, and a proven track record of achieving revenue targets of $1 million or more annually.
  • Experience working closely with high net worth individuals, foundation leadership and senior-level executives, is necessary.
  • Planned giving experience is preferred.
  • Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with fundraising database software, specifically Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge, is preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $58,000.00
