Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Healthy Lifestyles Director is responsible for the management and operations of the Health & Fitness department, including staff development and supervision, fiscal control, program development, facility management/maintenance, marketing, volunteer development and will have a leadership role in the annual fundraising campaign, financial development, and personal-professional development.The Director will implement and also ensure that all programming operations follow the Association standard operating procedures and timelines for Human Resources, Safety, Emergency Procedures, Fundraising Campaigns, Marketing, and Program Development as well best business practices.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Ability to develop, coordinate staff, programs, facilities and financial resources in a timely manner
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests daily and informatively
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing, and maintains productive relationships with others
  • Ability to implement solutions to challenging situations by analytical reasoning or research
  • Performs and evaluates community needs and develops programs accordingly.
  • Responsible for branch/department drills, knowledge and implementation of emergency procedures
  • Develops annual budgets and implements fiscal controls to ensure the budgeted goals are met.
  • Maintains a friendly, positive, safe, and supportive environment for members, participants and staff.
  • Attends all staff meetings, board meetings, in-service trainings, and special events as called upon.
  • Monitor the wellness center as fitness members use the equipment to ensure their general safety and equipment function; enforces all member codes of conduct, rules and policies including, but not limited to, age restrictions, dress codes, language and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities.

  • Ensure group exercise instructors are providing high-quality classes, engaging with members and welcoming all class participants by including and introducing new attendees to others.
  • Follows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management, and implements Membership by Design in each of his/her departments.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and Aerobics/Group background
Skills/Experience: 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-years health & fitness experience with 2 year-supervisory experience
  • Current certifications required include Personal Training, Group Exercise Instructor Certifications, CPR/FPR, FA, O2 and AED
  • Preferred Wellness Instructor Trainer (Strength Trainer & Personal Trainer)
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook
  • YMCA Team Leader Certification preferred
  • YMCA or other non-profit experience a plus
  • Experience developing, designing, implementing, and evaluating Health and Wellness Programs
  • Must have a clear understanding of the relation of members to the YMCA and of staff to volunteers.
  • Must be able to delegate, supervise, and motivate others to achieve the mission and objectives of the YMCA.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher & Outlook

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform various fitness skills, ability to set up and tear down and move equipment.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities and staff in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $49,920.00 - $54,912.00
