Responsible for designing, planning, budgeting, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, marketing and evaluating programs and activities designed to serve families and youth in YMCA Child Care, Preschools, Camps, Child Watch, Y Club and Power Scholars Academy.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop, administer, implement and/or oversee child care, preschool, camps, Child Watch, Y Club and Power Scholars Academy programs and activities that promote family and youth wellness by providing wholesome activities in safe environments.
- Oversee all child care sites and site management staff, providing necessary support to ensure successful quality programs that maintain a high standard of excellence.
- Prepare the annual income and expense budget for the all of the programs in the Child Care and Camps Department. Administer the budget and exercise controls to assure operations are carried out in within budget. Monitor budget. Prepare reports and oversee management of budgets.
- Ensure all records are maintained, i.e. attendance, financial, personnel and children’s files, etc.
- Maintain and process invoices, purchase orders and payroll efficiently.
- Oversee the selection, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of the staff required to effectively carry out the programs of these departments.
- Maintain communication with Site Directors to ensure successful child care programs. Make regular visits to school sites.
- Conduct regular Site Director and staff meetings to ensure compliance and for planning and training purposes.
- Attend appropriate management and departmental meetings and trainings.
- Recruit program participants to grow and maintain the program at capacity through marketing and special events.
- Maintain working relationships with schools, local youth and community-based organizations/agencies. Represent the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
- Work with school districts, organizations and agencies who serve children and families to assure coordination to enhance partnerships, collaborations and efficient dissemination of program offerings.
- Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, Y management, parents, school administrators, and community partners/resources. Communicate with parents and community members to build valuable relationships.
- Develop, participate and utilize an advisory committee appointed by the BOD.
- Maintain knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities. Expand job knowledge and skill with continued education and training for self and staff.
- Participate with other members of management in the YMCA’s Annual Campaign and ongoing fundraising efforts to support programs. Participate in grant writing to support the programs.
- Ensure a safe, enriching environment for all participants that promotes the Y’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services or equivalent, or a Child Development Program Director Permit.
Skills/Experience:
- Expert knowledge of State of California Title 22 Regulations and Health & Safety Code
- Expert knowledge of community needs and resources.
- Expert knowledge of child development and child care best practices.
- Expert knowledge in children, youth and family programming.
