The Senior Director of Professional & Career Development plays a leading role in defining and executing strategies that ensure the YMCA of the Triangle attracts, engages, develops and rewards a diverse, talented and engaged workforce of Cause-Driven leaders.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and implement strategies and systems to promote a learning environment.  Specifically, work across the Association to assess learning needs, and promote programs and/or learning experiences (i.e. Teams, Projects, Summits, Schools, Conferences, etc.) that fill gaps and strengthen the Association.  Will be involved in measuring progress and success and in constantly promoting continuous improvement of learning initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and strategic overview of systems to ensure that full-time staff meet Y-USA Leadership and Program Certification expectations. Serve as liaison to the regional Training Partner YMCA.
  • Define and direct the facilitation of Association New Employee Experience.  Specifically, assess needs that will strengthen engagement and development of part-time and full-time staff.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and support to assigned Association Teams.
  • Provide leadership and systems that support individual development of all staff.  Specifically, ensure all full-time staff have Individual Development Plans and are living into the Performance Coaching model in place across the Association. Work with leaders to optimize engagement and development of part-time staff.
  • Define continuing education needs and develop strategies and systems to ensure needs are met through formal training, self-study, project development and/or conference participation.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Learning and Leadership Development, develop and communicate systems, and provide consultation for regional and national conference participation.
  • Lead recruitment and development of L&LD facilitators and Y-USA training teams; ensure they are skilled, supported, challenged, engaged and appreciated.
  • Direct the design/acquisition and implementation of new leadership development tools/resources (such as workshops, eLearning, Webinars, etc.) based on data and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate with Association departments (i.e. Risk, Financial Development, IT, Marketing & Communications) to establish efficient systems and clear, consistent internal communication related to Learning & Leadership Development.  Specifically, will periodically query Association departments to understand how best to support them in delivering quality training and development related to their functional areas.
  • Facilitate leadership development classes as needed.
  • Provide oversight to ensure a robust Learning Management System is in place.
  • Assist in the management of the L&LD Department budget.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of five years of experience with YMCA Association and branch operations and a minimum of three years of experience developing diverse and collaborative teams comprised of individuals across a variety of groups.
  • Models facilitative leadership and is committed to leading a learning organization culture.
  • Exceptional facilitation and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • YUSA Leadership Certification Trainer preferred.
  • Ability to lead multiple priorities, consistently achieve goals and accomplish projects with little-to-no supervision and quality results.
