Under the general direction of the Property Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for Facility Maintenance, Field Maintenance and Custodial Functions for the branch during the Property Managers absence.  The Maintenance Technician shall operate the YMCA facilities and support services in accordance with policies, procedures and standards established by the YMCA of West Central Illinois Association.

Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times.  The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Quincy Family YMCA is conveyed.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be the number one priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of coaches, players, health seekers, members, and all people within the YMCA in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Cleans or assigns custodial staff to clean bathrooms, offices, locker rooms, hallways and any other assigned areas by vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing and polishing.
  • Performs minor maintenance repairs and tasks as directed.
  • Assists with other departments with set up for meetings, special events, etc.
  • During shutdown periods, must be available to work if needed.
  • Cleans or assigns custodial staff to mop and polishes floors, vacuum carpets and other restorative cleaning activities.
  • Ensure the completion of all paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains high staff morale and low staff turnover.
  • Clears snow and salts sidewalk in inclement weather or as needed.
  • Reports any damage or needed repairs to equipment, property, etc. to Property Manager.
  • Responsible for on-going communication with all staff.
  • Attends all staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by Property Manager pertaining to field, ground and facility maintenance.
  • Serves as an integral member of the total staff team.
  • Responds to emergencies appropriately in accordance to his/her level of training and circumstances.
  • Advises Property Manager and CEO on facility and equipment needs.
  • Interacts with staff, members, and general public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assists in special projects at the branch or other Association facilities.
  • Participates in Association and special responsibilities as designated by Property Manger.
  • Attends all mandatory training sessions.
  • Ensures that all facilities, equipment and grounds are clean and safe.
  • Clean Be Fit and Group Fitness Room on a weekly basis.
  • Mid Afternoon cleaning of Men’s Locker Room.
  • Be on call if needed and respond to any facility emergency.
  • Back up to night custodian if/when the night custodian is sick, on vacation, or absent from work
  • Back up pool monitoring and chemical-related issues, check pool chemicals twice daily.
  • Performs weekly cleaning of hot tub and pool.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
A high school diploma or GED.  Associate’s degree or technical certification training preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  •  Candidate must be a minimum of 18 years of age 
  • This position requires strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills are a must, as interaction with members, staff, and the general public is a daily requirement.
  • Individuals need experience or be able to comprehend general cleaning, sanitizing, floor care, general operation and repairs of equipment, and be computer literate.  Previous supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
