The Board of Directors of the YMCA of West Central IL is seeking a dynamic, influential visionary leader who can build strong relationships in the communities served by the Y.
The CEO must build and expand upon the Y’s rich history and the strong relationships built in the community through further development of partnerships with key leaders and build collaborations to serve the needs of those in the Quincy service region.
The CEO must be able to see the big picture, but, more importantly have experience in successful implementation of annual tactical planning to develop strong teams of staff and board members to meet the strategic objectives. A highly energetic, passionate leader with the desire to impact the community and ability to communicate and engage stakeholders will be key factors for success.
The CEO must be an assertive leader, with demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic approaches to address the community needs and position the Y as an indispensable community asset. The Y’s success and future growth is reliant on strong operations, productive partnerships with not-for-profit organizations, the public sector and private businesses. The CEO must be able to build and create a staff team and structure that suit the future growth of the organization.
The CEO is expected to be highly visible in the community, active in the development of meaningful community partnerships, positioning the Y as a strong charitable partner. The CEO shall lead the organization in promoting the Y services and image, while increasing quality and expanding programs and services. The successful candidate must be able to manage the YMCA with fiscally sound best practices without sacrificing the member experience and customer service to participants.
This position requires strong skills and competencies including: strategic planning and implementation; finances; program operations and fundraising expertise; staff development and membership.
- Evaluate, Adjust and Implement the Current Strategic Plan and Annual Operational Plan: Develop a plan of action to address any specific areas that are in need of enrichment or development including, but not limited to the following: enhancement of programs and services to impact community needs; and enhancement of the operational performance. Create and execute a strategy for achieving fundraising and revenue goals. Work with the appropriate Y staff to develop an annual tactical plan for achieving identified goals and objectives.
- Advocate the Y Vision throughout the Community: Act as an ambassador for the Y within the community by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with corporations, foundations, and major donors. Identify and gain access to new pipelines of support. Demonstrate a high level of comfort communicating the meaningful cause of the Y.
- Provide Strong Fiscal Leadership: The CEO will be expected to create a culture of philanthropy; leverage the resources currently available to drive the Y to higher levels of performance; and increase the long-term financial stability of the Y. Develop a strategic fund raising platform to include annual campaign, capital campaign, major gifts, planned giving, foundation grants, special events, collaboration; and create revenue streams necessary to support and sustain the needs of the Y.
- Lead and Develop a Cohesive Professional Staff Team: Must possess the confidence and skill to evaluate the current strengths and development needs of all key staff and create a plan for individual development to achieve excellence in their work. Create a plan to ensure that the YMCA has an outstanding, dedicated and empowered staff team. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie and commitment to mission. Be the heart and soul of the operation, actively interact and communicate with staff. Role model the behavior you want reflected in Y staff; be visible.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
- Prior experience (three years preferred) in a senior management role with a YMCA or comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of employees.
- Demonstrate the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
- Demonstrate the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.
- Prepare and manage a budget in excess of $2-3 Mil.
- Fundraising and endowment experience with recorded results.
- Experience in leading and developing boards.

- Strong leadership expertise and Provide Vision and Strategic Leadership
- Y Organizational Leader Certification. Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain this certification via the Y-USA Training and Leadership Development criterion.
- Fiscally sound business management approach.
- Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns, securing grants, short and long-term endowment growth, operating revenue growth, capital planning.
- Proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
- Implement effective methods to develop employees, enhance performance and recognize performance of staff team.
- Enhance overall Operational Performance.
Salary: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00
