Teach For America Rhode Island seeks a Director of Program Continuum who will lead as the head of program continuum for the region. The DTLD will set vision and strategy toward meeting the ambitious goals set for student achievement, corps member experience, and alumni engagement.

The DTLD will lead the Managers of Teacher Leadership Development as well as Rhode Island’s cohort of 50-60 first and second year corps members and is responsible for the effectiveness, retention, and stewardship of our corps members and alumni. The DTLD will collaborate closely with the Executive Director and will impact key leadership functions for the region such as overseeing progress to ambitious results, vision setting, strategic planning, and talent cultivation and hiring. The DTLD will lead strategy on stewarding recent alums and second year corps members into leadership positions. The DTLD reports directly to the Executive Director, Teach For America Rhode Island.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Setting Strategic Vision, Direction, and Framework for Program Continuum (40%)

  • Lead the program continuum charge, vision for corps culture, goals, meetings and progress to goal
  • Manage the project plan across the team for confirmation, hiring & onboarding of all incoming corps members, Induction, First 8 Weeks, All Corps Conferences, and Alumni Induction
  • Manage our alumni relations strategy, relationships and portfolio approach
  • Align Teach For America Theory of Leadership through entire Program Continuum
  • Develop a strong, outcomes focused performance culture within the program team and the corps
  • Seeking out and partnering with schools, districts, and community stakeholders to expand and strengthen corps member impact beyond the classroom
  • Steward our national point persons and alumni in support of our program continuum
  • Working closely with the Executive Director and home team partner to shape and effectively execute the strategy for improving teacher effectiveness in order to achieve ambitious student achievement goals
  • Serving as a member of the regional leadership team who make decisions about the vision and strategy for our teacher support and development

 Manage Big Rock Events, Programming, and Talent (40%)

  • Manage our Institute relationship
  • Ensure integration with the RIC certification program and successful program approval
  • Manage the MTLDs to support our cohort of 50-60 corps members to achieve ambitious outcomes in their classrooms 
  • Manage our data related to key TLD and DSP stakeholders, and to operations
  • Hire, manage, and steward content specialists, Induction and Kickoff Coordinators, DEI facilitators, and Alumni Fellow
  • Manage certification relationship with the Rhode Island Department of Education
  • Lead the analysis process for the survey results within our corps, student achievement, and alumni
  • Build alumni engagement opportunities including networking, professional development, and fellowships
  • Manage relationship with Leadership for Educational Equity

 Steward Regional Goals and Organizational Stewardship (20%)

  • Manage the program components of our regional operations budget
  • Participate in and support the regional overarching efforts for public affairs, development, Board and operations
  • Support the full team experience for meetings, retreats and celebrations
  • Manage and support our team to implement our corps member policies and procedures
  • Manage the MTLD hiring process in partnership with the ED
  • Work to support the talent needs of the region via work with alumni and corps pipelines in support of the ED
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting teachers
  • Experience as an MTLD at Teach For America with a record of strong results preferred
  • Ability to travel to school sites throughout Rhode Island
  • Some weekend and evening work required
  • Managing and influencing others to achieve a vision that is aligned to goals and priorities
  • Operating with urgency and sense of possibility to achieve ambitious, measurable results
  • Analyzing data to draw accurate conclusions and to inform team management approach
  • Making informed, timely decisions and using sound judgment to prioritize actions
