The Leadership Program Director contributes to the overall goals and objectives of the YMCA of the Ozarks.

Under the direction of the Director of Camp Lakewood, the Leadership Program Director contributes to the overall goals and objectives of the YMCA of the Ozarks by insuring the proper daily operations and programs of the Leadership/TEAM Works departments.  Camp Lakewood is an ACA accredited facility located in Missouri’s Eastern Ozarks and is situated on a 360-acre lake surrounded by 5,200 acres of forest-covered hills with three ropes courses, traditional summer program and excellent support staff and departments. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, train and schedule the Ozarks’ Adventure staff.
  • Responsible for the preparation and implementation of the annual income and expense budget for Adventure department.
  • Administers the approved budget, exercising necessary controls to assure compliance with Branch and Association guidelines for spending, reporting and bill paying.
  • Responsible for the purchase, inventory, upkeep and replacement of department equipment in accordance with Branch and Association guidelines.
  • Submit required Service Schedules by the appropriate deadline and attend Service Schedule meetings as required.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly Service Schedule and Director’s meetings.
  • Attend committee meetings (Summer Camp, Occupancy, Branch Initiative, United Way, etc.) as assigned by the Director of Camp Lakewood.
  • Works with the Marketing department to ensure that all flyers for any events that are visible to guests are up to the standards of all YMCA of the Ozarks marketing.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for department.
  • Enhances overall service given to all Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood guests.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with support services departments including Program, Outdoor Education, Group Sales, Triangle Y Ranch, Maintenance, Food Service and Housekeeping to provide for the comfort and safety of Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood guests.
  • Provides the Maintenance department with timely information pertaining to the upkeep, maintenance and operation of assigned department areas and related equipment.
  • Reports damaged or lost equipment in an appropriate and timely manner to the Director of Camp Lakewood.
  • Participates in the implementation of YMCA management systems as they apply to World Service drives, United Way drives, Capital and Partner Campaigns.
  • Supports marketing efforts in cooperation with the Director of Marketing and Director of Group Sales, to promote Adventure activity participation and the use of the YMCA of the Ozarks facilities by new conference, day and specialty groups.
  • Participates in continuing training for staff when offered, and consistently works to add new and exciting programming to the department.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and/or Tourism, Sports Management, Recreation, Park Management or a related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience in camp, resort or outdoor skills programming.  
  • Management experience with a strong working knowledge of computers and budget management
  • Human relation, organizational, creativity, programming and problem-solving skills preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical Mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Physical Dexterity: ability to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment, exercise equipment, office equipment (fax, copier, stapler, etc.), tools and machinery as needed.
  • Lifting: ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Sensory Requirements: ability to hear, listen, speak, smell, touch, taste, see and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to drive vehicles (golf carts, car, van and/or bus).
  • Must have and maintain valid class E driver’s license with a good record and be able to operate YMCA vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Ability to maintain alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme temperature conditions (heat and/or cold).
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,200.00
