The Camp Lakewood Program Director reports to the Camp Director and is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the summer program. Camp Lakewood has an average of 300 campers per session and 100+ staff. Responsibilities include monitoring program supplies, recruiting staff, marketing, program development, equipment care and maintenance and participation in budget development. In the non-summer months, the position assists with Outdoor Education programming. Previous camp experience is a must. Previous YMCA experience is a plus.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Monitor programming for all Lakewood campers.
  • Supervise and evaluate camp programming.
  • Responsible for all financial aspects; including expenses, budget and annual income, pertaining to Resident Camp.
  • Hire, train, and guide staff for Camp Lakewood.
  • Assist with fund raising as assigned.
  • Ensure superb experience by campers and guests by upholding high customer service standards.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.   
Educational Background: 
Position requires a degree relevant to the field of camping or at least 3-5 years of camping experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The Camp Lakewood Program Director must possess management and organizational skills, marketing and fiscal management skills, general property management skills of a camp facility, extensive human relations skills in dealing with campers, staff, parents, schools, YMCA's, the public, boards and committees, and problem-solving skills, to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization.
  • As the Camp Lakewood Program Director, personal leadership is extremely important. 
  • Ability to delegate appropriate responsibilities and hold staff accountable in day-to-day operations is essential. 
  • Parental contact of an appropriate and timely nature will also be critical to the growth and good feelings of/about camp.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical Mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Physical Dexterity: ability to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment, exercise equipment, office equipment (fax, copier, stapler, etc.), tools and machinery as needed.
  • Lifting: ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Sensory Requirements: ability to hear, listen, speak, smell, touch, taste, see and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to drive vehicles (golf carts, car, van and/or bus)
  • Must have and maintain valid class E driver’s license with a good record and be able to operate YMCA vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Ability to maintain alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme temperature conditions (heat and/or cold)
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,200.00 - $36,000.00
