Primary Duties:  Provide high-level administrative and organizational support for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Israeli staff in the fundraising activity of the organization.

Job Type:  Part-time (average 80-100 hours/month), with possibility of advancement to full-time, depending on performance and organization’s workload needs.  Workload will vary from month-to-month.

Salary:  Hourly pay rate up to $25/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Location:  Portland, Oregon (office in SW Portland)

Travel:  Position will require some travel within the United States and Canada (average approximately 2-4 trips per year)

Description of Employer:  American Friends of Hand in Hand is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote coexistence and build shared society between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel, primarily by raising financial support and public awareness for the integrated bilingual schools and shared communities operating under the auspices of Hand in Hand: Center for Jewish-Arab Education in Israel.  Hand in Hand currently operates schools in 6 Israeli cities, with nearly 2000 Jewish and Arab students enrolled and thousands of adults participating in shared community activities.  For more information about Hand in Hand and American Friends of Hand in Hand, see the website:  <www.handinhandk12.org>

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Organize, schedule and handle logistical arrangements for travel of Israeli Hand in Hand staff coming to the U.S. (average 2-4 trips per year)
  • Organize, schedule and handle logistical arrangements for fundraising work of Executive Director, including travel and event planning (average 1 trip per month)
  • Provide total administrative support for Board of Directors, including preparation of meeting materials and arranging meeting venues (4 meetings per year)
  • Monitor calendar deadlines for grant application and grant reporting (does not include actual writing of grant applications and reports)
  • Implement systematic follow-up for donors & prospects who attend events in the US or visit HIH schools in Israel
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Chair of the Board

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding organizational skills with careful attention to detail
  • Positive, flexible, “can-do” approach to problem solving
  • Requires high-level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Excel); experience with Salesforce donor data base a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cheerful attitude towards supporting others (staff, board, donors, etc.) to achieve organization’s goals
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Supportive of the educational and coexistence-building mission of AFHIH; Hebrew and/or Arabic language skills a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or more advanced education
  • (Experience in other fundraising contexts a plus)
