The Director of Equity and Advocacy (EA) reports to the Executive Director and works closely with all staff to achieve Project Access NOW’s (PANOW) organizational mission and vision. As a member of the Executive Team, the EA Director leads two intentionally overlapping areas of work: promoting inter/intra-department racial diversity and equity efforts to grow PANOW’s workforce, training, and anti-racist culture. The role is also responsible for monitoring and engaging in local and state policy efforts which impact PANOW programming and clients, elevating client voice and perspective where possible. PANOW is committed to work that promotes a DEI-centered culture and expects this role to embody equity leadership, honor shared agreements and organizational culture in both internal and external relationships. This role requires a dynamic, organized, and collaborative leader who can motivate teams and be responsive to change.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads and sponsors Project Access NOW’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives
  • Conducts comprehensive evaluation, coordination, and implementation of PANOW’s DEI strategic goals, in partnership with the Executive Team;
  • Generates and oversees staff training to explore racial equity, white privilege, and implicit bias as it relates to PANOW’s programs, clients, and partners;
  • Collaborates with Executive Team to:
    • ensure programs are developed with the fundamentals of lived experience, racial equity, and community wellbeing centered in both delivery and measurement; and that staff diversity;
    • develop and successfully implement evaluation and data collection mechanisms that assess organizational culture, staff diversity, and equity internally;
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director and Board Chair to support equity training and engagement for PANOW’s Board of Directors;
  • Represents PANOW on a variety of partner and stakeholder advocacy groups, staying abreast of policy and practice implications of city, regional and statewide efforts that may impact programming;
  • Coordinates efforts to raise the organizational voice with stakeholders, policy makers, and in partnership with other entities as it serves the mission, clients, and community members; and

 

Operations

  • Collaborates with the Executive Team to build a diverse recruiting pipeline, review internal hiring and operations processes and documentation with an equity lens, and foster and promote the development of an internal culture that is inclusive, reflects belonging and respects diversity;
  • Staffs the Advocacy Committee of the Board of Directors; and
  • In partnership with the Director of Finance and Operations and Executive Director, identifies and seeks funding to support DEI and advocacy initiatives.

Essential Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Works with the Executive Team to execute upon vision and strategy;
  • Supports and exemplifies team collaboration, mentorship, and team success;
  • Develops diversity and advocacy metrics and reporting organization wide, including strategic plan, grant reporting, and ideally measures for return on investment.
Educational Background: 
 BS/BA degree and 5 or more years of non-profit leadership, management, or equivalent experience;
Skills/Experience:

  • Strong demonstrated expertise in the principles of health equity, diversity, racial equity, and inclusion;
  • Knowledge of or lived experience (preferred) in the types of communities PANOW serves and supports;
  • Experience with legislative and community advocacy, ideally including elevating client voice;
  • Demonstrated collaborative management and/or leadership that is consistent with an equity centered organization;
  • BS/BA degree and 5 or more years of non-profit leadership, management, or equivalent experience;
  • Experience managing and collaborating with diverse teams, including development and continuous learning for the team;
  • Strong and clear communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • High level of organizational skills;
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and proof of insurance required;

  • Adequate hearing/vision/speech/mobility attributes to ensure performance of required office responsibilities.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$80,000 - $95,000 /annually. DOE

Medical, dental, vision, life and short-term disability insurance, FSA, and 401K retirement plan with 3% match
