The HR Generalist will work closely with the Chief Human Resource Officer and will provide additional support to the HR Associate while performing HR related duties on a professional level. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas including but not limited to; employee relations, benefit and COBRA administration, payroll, onboarding, policy implementation, workers compensation, ergonomic evaluations, retirement plan administration and compliance reporting.
Areas of Responsibility:
- In conjunction with the HR Associate ensures compliance on all personnel files and timely processing of all new hire process including offer letters, background checks, emailing required documents and follow up.
- Working with the HR Associate on a rotating schedule conduct scheduled employee orientations.
- Assists with recruitment, job postings and interview process when needed.
- Manage benefit administration including; benefits orientation, enrollments, employee census, terminations and COBRA as well as act as a resource to employees on questions.
- Reconcile carrier benefit and COBRA statements and communicate any issues with Finance department.
- Provide customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
- Reviews online benefit enrollments for accuracy and coordinates enrollment with third-party administrator through carrier connection. Ensures compliance with COBRA guidelines by completing a NOTIFICATION OF QUALIFYING EVENT FORM for our third party administrator.
- Coordinates health, life and disability insurance enrollments and communicates with service providers and broker concerning routine administration of programs.
- Update and process any changes needed in HRIS software and provide assistance to staff in registering for the employee portal.
- Assist the Chief Human Resource Officer with various research projects, reporting or special projects.
- Responsible for assuring accurate and timely entries of all new hire information and ongoing maintenance in the HRIS.
- Maintain knowledge of current labor laws and keep labor law posters current.
- Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with the branches to review policies, procedures and updates for workers compensation protocol.
- Assist HR Associate with payroll processing on a rotating schedule.
- Ensure confidentiality of all HR documents and personnel matters.
- In conjunction with the HR Associate maintains electronic documents (i-cloud).
- Complete require compliance reports for state and federal including DOL and EEO-1.
- As directed by the Chief Human Resource Officer, prepares other reports, documents, audits; assists with the development of policies and procedures.
- Process employee injury reports and workers’ compensation claims and follow up with supervisors on results and any work restrictions.
- Work with liability insurance carrier on strategies to minimize work related injuries; periodically to review claims and work to reduce experience ratings.
- Meet association standard for attendance, punctuality and dependability. Attend departmental meetings and trainings.
- Take initiative to seek potential training opportunities.
- Serve as an Annual Campaign (the Y’s annual fundraising campaign) team captain by recruiting individuals to volunteer to raise money for the Y’s programs and financial assistance, training and motivating your team, and soliciting for donations.
- Adheres to all Y Brand guidelines and receives prior approval for use and creation of any Y related social media from the Advancement department.
- Is an advocate to the Y by promoting our cause. Assists with the annual campaign by increasing awareness about the campaign in and outside of the Y and identifying prospective donors and/or volunteers.
- Other duties as required.
Educational Background:
Certificate in Human Resources required. SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Associates degree and 3-4 of years of experience in Human Resources, Payroll or related field required. College degree preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of a Windows environment, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with ADP Workforce Now a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate in person and on the phone with all levels of employees and members.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with a customer service focus.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within teams.
- Ability to work in a very fast paced environment with frequent interruption and continue to maintain attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.
- Good decision making skills required.
- Ability to take initiative and be resourceful and creative and adapt to frequent change. Previous experience working in a non-profit environment desired.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel locally.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $43,000.00 - $48,000.00
