Camp Bernie offers overnight and day camps during the summer and a wide range of Outdoor Education programs throughout the year.


Reporting to the Senior Program Director, the Day Camp Coordinator will oversee and grow our summer day camp. In addition, the coordinator will teach outdoor education and team building classes during the school year.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages the summer day camp programs, including the supervision of summer community swim, archery, horse and dirt bike lessons.
  • Arranges and coordinates nine weeks of day camp trips.
  • Coordinates all day camp activities, including the opening flagpole, trips, songs/games, All-Camp Day activities, unit activities, and closing ceremonies. Adheres to all local and state camp health codes. Supervises the well-being of all campers.
  • Hires, schedules and supervises camp staff. Designs and implements staff training and meets with staff regularly.
  • Participates in pre-season setup and post-season breakdown of camp.
  • Markets camp to increase participation and heighten the community’s awareness of Camp Bernie.
  • Participates in all Open Houses.
  • Market USA Immersion program to local families for day camp hosting opportunities.
  • Works with Senior Program Director on summer camp budgets.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates inclusive camp programming.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Assists Outdoor Education and Weekend Coordinator in maintaining program areas.
  • Assists in teaching classes for Outdoor Education and Weekend Groups.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. Able to deal with conflict when warranted.
  • Compiles program statistics through parent and camper evaluations.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required or equivalent experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Strong organization, customer-service, computer and communication skills a must
  • Minimum 2 years’ camp leadership experience required
  • Prior experience running summer camps highly preferred
  • Must be creative, innovative and enjoy working with children
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid and YMCA program-specific certifications necessary
