The Vice President – Healthy Living & Membership is accountable for providing strategic leadership and supervision to the Healthy Living & Membership area of focus for the YMCA. This position serves as part of the YMCA’s strategic leadership/EOS team. The Healthy Living & Membership area of focus includes: the Experience Team, Healthy Living, Membership, and Member Relations. This role will oversee the total operation of the Y’s Healthy Living & Membership programs with a focus on delivering high quality programs for participants, families and community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Leadership, Management & Accountability – Accountability is an outcome of leadership and management.
  • Develops and implements high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies, including group exercise and personal training. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff.
  • Oversees the planning of the annual budget for this division; manages and oversees implementation of the approved budget and takes appropriate action to correct variances
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.
  • Serves as a member of Y senior management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three to five years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct multi-department operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit quality volunteers.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of 
  • the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required
