Work with the Branch Executive Director and Regional Director to plan,organize and implement the outdoor activities and programs, including day camp, at the Lower Shore Family YMCA, (Pocomoke, MD). The Outdoor Activities Director should have a passion for the outdoors and teaching and be able to work with a variety of ages and ability levels. The candidate must ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of staff, campers and participants.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Incorporate and model our YMCA Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Oversee implementation of summer camp program including curriculum development, daily activities, schedule, transportation and special events
  • In cooperation with the Branch Executive Director, recruit, hire, supervise and train camp staff
  • Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, co-workers and supervisors
  • Ensure the physical, emotional and social safety of campers and work with staff to create an environment in which all campers are respectful of each other and the guidelines of camp.
  • Report to the Branch Executive Director any concerns about the behavior of a particular camper and report any suspicions of child abuse immediately; document accordingly on an incident report.
  • Build relationships with Camp parents and use them as resources to provide insight into their child’s behavior.
  • Stay informed of staff choices, especially involving discipline, to ensure that campers receive fair and appropriate treatment.
Educational Background: 
High school graduate or equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in a leadership role in the areas of summer camp, youth programming, teaching or relative experience.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, boating, camping, aquatics, recreation, etc…
  • At least 21 years of age and with a good driving record (no more than 2 points on license) in order to drive the Y bus.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $36,000.00
