Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director the Childcare Director is responsible for programming and supervising a child care program which meets the needs of the children and parents it serves.  The Child Care Director will be responsible for the site specified in the work agreement, as well as those assigned by the Associate Executive Director.  The Child Care Director will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y and the regulating agency.  The Child Care Director will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY

  • Design and gear the program to reflect the needs of the children with respect to their interests, abilities, social talents and individual style of learning.
  • Develop, plan, supervise and implement the program curriculum for the classroom (creative curriculum) in accordance with the Y’s policies and philosophy and with NAEYC recommended standards for quality.
  • Conduct and supervise the completion of progress reports and evaluation of children
  • Assure all regulations and policies set forth by EEC and OCY are met
  • Complete the following recordkeeping systems:
  • Private sector unit reports
  • Overdue reports and payment records
  • Enrollment statistics/waitlists
  • EEC income eligible reassessments/paperwork
  • Bureau of Nutrition reports and applications
  • Monthly voucher RFP’s
  • Meet with parents to conduct new intakes or discuss progress as needed
  • Supervise children in all program locations including field trips
  • Provide a weekly staff schedule and ensure staff coverage at all times
  • Ensure the timely issuance of monthly newsletters and calendar of events
  • Complete necessary documentation including:  incident and accident reports, attendance records
  • Maintain proper behavior of children at all times with strict adherence to the OCY’s Behavior Management Policy and Child Care Policies.
  • Ensure all fiscal policies are adhered to as they relate to collection, safekeeping and depositing of all funds

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: 

  • Hold weekly staff meetings with program staff and ensure that training requirements are met.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate childcare staff and volunteers

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and monitor department annual budget
  • Collection of and monitoring weekly fees and payments
  • Maintain all required documentation of expenses
  • Order/purchase needed supplies, snack and equipment
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures including petty cash, purchase orders, employee expense, client overdues, deposits, and billing.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must meet all requirements for the EEC Director/Lead Teacher Certification.
  • Evidence of physical examination every two years
  • Negative Mantoux test
  • Immunity from mumps and rubella
  • Certification of good health from a physician
  • Minimum:  Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field or enrolled in a degree program.
  • Minimum of two years of classroom experience
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent oral, written and organizational skills
