Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In conjunction with Aquatics Director, provides administration and supervision of the aquatics staff, swimming pool and related areas per YMCA requirements.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directing personnel and volunteers as needed. Assists with the review and evaluation of staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Coordinates scheduling for private, semi-private and adapted swim lessons, as well as scouting events.
  • Maintain current lifeguard certification. Teach swim lessons and lifeguard as needed to ensure adequate coverage of pool and programs.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with department operational plans.
  • Provides emergency services when necessary.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding and swim instruction in-services.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Must be willing to become a Lifeguard Instructor within 6 months of being hired.
  • Teach Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid classes to YMCA staff and the community.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a head lifeguard, etc.
  • Requirements prior to start: Child Abuse Prevention; Lifeguard Certification; CPR Certification; First Aid Certification.
  • Requirements within 60 days of hire include completion of New Staff Orientation; Bloodborne Pathogens; Child Abuse Prevention; Sexual Harassment Prevention; Waterpark Lifeguard Certification.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $32,500.00 - $37,500.00
