Program Director - Y on the Fly

Program Director is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Y on the Fly program.

Under the supervision of the Associate V.P of Community Outreach & Impact, the Program Director is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Y on the Fly program. The program director ensures that all operations i.e., direct program implementation, budgeting, reporting and hiring duties are carried out in manner that delivers exceptional service to program participants, employees and funders.

Y on the Fly is an innovative mobile Y program delivering games, sports, activities and healthy snacks to children of all ages in underserved neighborhoods during the summer months. Each visit is 90 minutes and will incorporate 60 minutes of active, physical play and thirty minutes of engagement and discussion around healthy eating. Activities will include jumping rope, various sports, obstacle courses and games with water. In addition to the summer months, this program will run during the school year. Every week (Saturday) the director will host a community engagement day in one of our selected communities, bringing together partners and vendors to support the needs of that community. This position will operate on a 40 hour/week schedule between May-August. Between September- April, the position will serve as a floater for afterschool in ratio Y on the Fly programming from 6:00 AM-9:00 AM & 3:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday – Friday throughout Allegheny County. The consistent days off for this role are Sundays and Mondays.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs all operations of the Y on the Fly. These may include facility and staff management, daily operations, scheduling, collaborations with other agencies, and health education.
  • Monitors the achievement of these objectives through measurable outcomes, taking appropriate action to see they are met.
  • Create and manage program budget
  • Recruits, employs, develops, supervises, evaluates and terminates (when needed) staff and volunteers while being fiscally responsible and within budget limitations.
  • Manages a part-time team of 4
  • Evaluates current programs and participation to expand or discontinue locations based on customer satisfaction and funders’ satisfaction.
  • Maintains an accurate system of records and reports.
  • Demonstrates the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
  • Participates in training and abide by the policies of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
  • Provides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impact the end user’s commitment and personal growth.
  • Builds a culture of service delivery that is reflective of the Y mission and responsive to member issues and needs.
  • Assists in forming community partnerships to expand Y Without Walls concept.
  • Conduct ongoing safety inspections.
  • Local travel required and occasional long-distance travel for training and special events.
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Educational Background: 
This position prefers an undergraduate degree, but not required. Will consider experience in lieu of degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two years’ experience in the area of youth development, social services, community outreach
  • The incumbent is required to maintain current CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Must complete the on-line YMCA New Employee Orientation available on the YMCA Exchange.
  • Physical & TB Test Required
  • Valid Driver’s license
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $29,240.00 - $43,860.00
