Under the supervision of Operations Director and Core Service Leader, the Aquatics Program Director is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of aquatics programs including YMCA of the USA Swim Lessons, Swim Team, Certification Courses for Aquatics, one off-site location (Plum Senior High School) and ensuring that operations in the aquatics department run smoothly and meet the needs of the community.
The Aquatics Program director is responsible for integrating YMCA USA aquatics best practices and serving on relevant Association committees to enhance leadership skills and aquatics programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensure that pool(s) are open and staffed with certified YMCA/Red Cross certified lifeguards
- Integrates YMCA USA best practices for aquatics programs.
- Develop annual operating objectives for the Aquatics Department.
- Monitor the achievement of these objectives, taking appropriate action to ensure they are met.
- Develop, monitor and administer annual budget (income and expense) for the Departments.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate a full range of aquatic programs and services, including swim instruction, all ages and abilities; youth and adult swim team programs;
- Ensure the proper care and maintenance of the aquatic facility, equipment and supplies used in all programs under his/her responsibility.
- Ensure all Aquatic Department Operations are consistent with the Association, County and City procedures. This includes safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, Human Resources and Payroll procedures, and maintains appropriate logs and records.
- Maintain cleanliness, and safety of facility.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field.
Skills/Experience:
- Must obtain YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguarding within 30 days.
- Must obtain YMCA or American Red Cross LGI within 60-90 days.
- Must have or obtain YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor 1 year.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO), PA Pesticide Applicator Certification and Allegheny
- County Bathing Place Manager certification is required within 120 days of employment.
- Three to five years’ experience (salary negotiable based on the preferred years of experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and staff management skills
- Ability to educate and motivate staff, volunteers and community about YMCA mission
- Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
- Must be familiar with legal liability in aquatics facility.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $38,198.00 - $57,298.00
