Under supervision of the Branch Executive, the Senior Program Director of Sports and Aquatics Programs, directs, develops, organizes and implements high quality, mission-driven and member focused sports and seasonal aquatics programs for all ages. Oversees and develops the sports and aquatics departments and programs, including staff supervision, budget management and planning. Collaborates with and supports membership.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • With the guidance of the Executive Branch Director and the Association Director of Sports and Aquatics Programs, develops, implements and manages sports and aquatics programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.
  • Recruits, hires and trains all staff and volunteers positions.  Supervises and evaluates staff regularly to ensure program quality and consistency.  Makes recommendations to Branch Executive regarding staff performance issue and concerns.
  • Officiates, instructs, guards as needed.
  • Secures facilities for programs.
  • Develops, manages and controls sports and aquatics department budgets.  Assesses and recommends budgeting for program needs.
  • Ensures staff certifications are current and complete; provide training as needed.
  • Ensures that the gym/pool and program schedules are in alignment with fiscal and program goals.
  • Conducts certification classes including: lifeguard, swim instructor, first aid, O2 and CPR/AED.
  •  Ensures program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Provides data and reports on assigned programs in support of the planning process of the branch and Association.
  • Develops, produces and disseminates appropriate program information in order to promote sports and aquatics programs to the public and to current members.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and other committees as assigned.
  • Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers.    
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or equivalent preferred. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in sports and/or aquatics programming.
  • Experience with computers including word processing and database software. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the recruitment, training and supervision of staff and volunteers.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including the ability to make oral presentations. Ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, peers, volunteers and supervisor.  Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA Sports and Aquatics Programs.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Current certifications in YMCA Sports Director, Aquatics Director, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid or ability to acquire within 90 days.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00
