In pursuit of preparing our newest Corps Members with the skills and mindsets to be Day 1 Ready and create student Impact, and to be part of a dedicated network grounded in core values, we will launch a regional summer training institute in Phoenix for the summer of 2018. We are looking for a visionary, instructionally-savvy, and dedicated leader to sustain this world-class teacher preparation experience for ~75-100 CMs each year.
This person will work closely with the Program Continuum and External Affairs teams to ensure alignment between the pre-corps experience, summer training and ongoing teacher support and development – all of which is centered on the principles of Teaching As Leadership. They will also work closely with Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s College to align our programs. They will also collaborate regularly with colleagues across the country on innovation in instructional and leadership development. The Director, Institute will report to the VP, Teacher Leadership Development, and will eventually build and manage a summer team of ~15 part-time staff to lead institute programming and logistics.
Set Vision and Design (20%)
- Design a compelling vision and strategy to reach desired CM preparedness, CM culture and student achievement goals over the summer as part of our training program for corps members
- Partner with members of our Leadership Team to build a strong case for support of our regional institute, and represent the region at meetings with potential donors to secure additional funding (anchor funding already secured)
- Partner closely with Program Continuum team and Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s College to create a seamless transition from institute training to regional program support
- Make significant instructional decisions that will impact both corps member effectiveness and our ultimate goal of student achievement
Manage Team and Operations (40%)
- Manage 1 full-time staff member in the planning and execution of institute
- Work with our regional team to cultivate and select ~15 high performing part-time summer institute staff to build a top-notch instructional team
- Develop and execute summer staffing and training aligned to Institute priorities preparing CMs with foundational skills, building strong corps vulture and strong relationships
Build Relationships with Key Stakeholders (20%)
- Develop and manage strong relationships with key players at Arizona State University and school partners in order to develop a summer school program for students and training program for corps members
- Partner closely with school leaders of Institute sites to ensure institute goals and priorities align with school goals and priorities
Fulfilling our Mission through Organizational and Regional Priorities (20%)
- Participate in cross-functional team-wide initiatives that align with our regional priorities and strategies.
- Lead 1 additional work-stream starting in Fall 2018.
- Strong instructional background, experience as a former teacher, teacher coach, or school leader, required.
- Experience designing and executing adult professional development required.
- Minimum of 6 years or more of work experience required.
- Experience in instructional leadership roles during teacher training residencies highly preferred (Teach For America Summer Institute, TNTP summer residency, etc.).
- 2 or more years of management experience highly preferred.
Work Demands
- Ability to work most nights and weekends during the 6-week summer Institute.
- Outside of Institute, limited night and weekend work.
