Assistant Treasurer

The Desert Southwest Conference is excited to announce an open position for an Assistant Treasurer. The Assistant Treasurer will assist the Executive Director of Administrative Services and the Conference Treasurer in performing financial administration functions to ensure optimum cost effectiveness, while managing all Annual Conference assets and liabilities. The ideal candidate will implement and enforce Annual Conference fiscal policies as established by the Conference Council on Finance and Administration.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in resourcing, implementing, interpreting, and monitoring of the Annual Conference budgets.
  • Communicate to various boards, councils, committees, etc. the status of their budgeted funds through the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Oversee monthly processing and reporting of any annual conference fund-raising campaign contributions.
  • Help manage the receipt and processing of all incoming funds such as apportionment remittances, special askings, health insurance premiums, loan payments, campaign funds, etc.
  • Pay or disburse by check or journal entry all items payable. Process the required line-item entries to the general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare the semi-monthly Conference payroll. Complete and submit the appropriate quarterly and year end government forms.
  • Monitor available funds and maximize the return on funds invested by the Annual Conference through the shifting of deposits as approved by CFA.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in accounting or similar field of study is required. Certified Public Accountant is Preferred.
  • At least five years’ previous experience in accounting, non-profit or church accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Shelby (or similar accounting software).
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of The United Methodist Church and The Book of Discipline is preferred but not required.

 Additional Considerations:

  • Hybrid position, working both remotely and in the Phoenix Conference Office.
  • Full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Salary Range: $75,396, to $95,416 yearly (Exempt)
