The Executive Director of Marketing & Communications will help provide strategic and tactical leadership in marketing and communications to advance the YMCA’s mission through internal and external communications and marketing. This position will apply experience, creativity, and leadership to develop and achieve strategic marketing/communication goals. Oversees tactical activities that will enable the YMCA to grow market share in its programs and services. Defines an integrated marketing strategy, identifies new branding and promotional opportunities and strengthens the current marketing and communications structure.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Partners with operations leadership to develop and direct association communications, marketing and public relations strategies and campaigns.
  • Develops systems and manages resources needed to carry out the communication and marketing plans. Establishes and monitors the communication and marketing department budgets for the YMCA. 
  • Develops internal and external communications policies and procedures for the association.
  • Develops external communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand and support the mission of the YMCA.
  • Manages advertising, promotions and market research related to customer demographics.
  • Leads the organization’s digital marketing, online and social media strategy.
  • Plans and oversees the association newsletters, brochures and reports.
  • Develops annual operating goals, objectives and plans for the marketing and communications area. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
  • Develops and manages relationships with media outlets and representatives to best position the YMCA as a community collaborator and a cause driven organization.
  • Handles internal and external crisis communications planning, management, training and response.
  • Provides training in marketing and communications.  Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in marketing and communications.
  • Continues to develop the YMCA’s brand awareness and reputation and ensures the YMCA brand is consistently applied in every marketing and communications tactic.
  • Builds and maintain a high performance culture through effective performance management, communication and coaching of staff.
  • Manages and drive vendor relationships.
  • Serves as lead staff to the Sr. Operations and Association team.
  • Develops strategies to ensure staff and volunteers reflect the community.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Eight or more years of professional experience with a background in communications, marketing, public relations or other related-field in the YMCA or another not-for-profit preferred.
  • Ability to relate to top community leaders. 
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
  • YMCA of the YUSA Senior Director Qualification, preferred.
  • YMCA Program knowledge, preferred.
