The Phoenix region of Teach For America is seeking an Associate, Public Affairs Operations (APAO) to help maximize the reach and impact of its work through strategic communications and tightly managed operational support. The APAO will report directly to the Vice President on the Public Affairs and Community Engagement team (VP, PACE). The APAO’s primary responsibilities will be the oversight of team-wide operational support and region-wide external communications. The APAO must be someone who is excited about telling the story of Teach For America – Phoenix to our community through various communication channels, while also be a stickler for details and organization to help keep the PACE on track. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Regional External Communications (50%)

  • Execute on a strategic, region-wide communications plan that will tell the story of Teach For America and its people to multiple audiences (alumni, corps members, external partners, public officials, the general public, etc.)
  • Create and execute on social media communications (through multiple social media platforms)
  • Drive region-wide and cross-functional campaigns through all public communications channels
  • Maintain external communication with community partners by compiling information to create and send a monthly newsletter, mailing holiday cards, and creating thank you communication
  • Collect and analyze feedback data to improve communications efforts ongoing, and stay on top of pertinent news stories in local media outlets

 Budget Management & Administrative Support (35%)

  • Secure and schedule meetings, manage calendar, travel, and process expense reports for VP, PACE
  • Manage functional team (PACE) budget through forecasting, tracking, processing, and reporting team expenses
  • Provide operational support for internal team meetings and functions
  • Lead the execution and logistical planning of PACE external events
  • Help support and manage paperwork for all incoming and current corps members and ensure 100% regional compliance with AmeriCorps requirements

 Regional and Organizational Responsibilities (15%)

  • Serve as a member of the region’s Cross Functional Affairs Team and serve as the liaison to other regional teams
  • Provide support for various cross functional regional events
  • Support and participate in Corps Member selection and recruitment
  • Engage and participate in regional all staff meetings and events
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience

  • 2-3 years professional experience strongly preferred

Work Demands

  • Some weekend and evening work required
  • Ability to travel 2-3 times per year
