Audubon Pennsylvania has been working in Philadelphia for more than 10 years, engaging Philadelphians in on-the-ground habitat work, environmental education in schools, and community planning projects. The Project Coordinator will lead and/or assist with delivering conservation, education and outreach programs around the city, stemming from the needs of local teachers and leaders. S/he will work closely with Philadelphia staff to strengthen and expand Audubon's programs and deepen the organization's work within targeted communities.  

This is a permanent full-time opportunity. The Coordinator will work from the Discovery Center in East Fairmount Park and be directed and supervised by the Program Manager, Community Stewardship.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, implement and assess environmental education programs for students grades 2-8 both on- and off-site.
  • Coordinate lessons and activities for after-school environmental programs.
  • Develop, organize and lead educational activities for attendees of all ages at community festivals and events, including the Philadelphia Science Festival in April.
  • Assist with habitat restoration projects throughout the city, including schoolyard habitat programs and plantings on community spaces, including engaging volunteers in the projects.
  • Create, plan, coordinate and evaluate public programs for children and adults.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with Philadelphia community groups, schools, local Audubon Chapters, City of Philadelphia departments and others to create successful conservation programs throughout the city.
  • Explore ways to engage new and diverse communities, including under-represented audiences in the city.
  • Assist with development of youth and young adult corps to provide skill and leadership training, and promote stewardship of Philadelphia habitats.
  • Recruit and assist with managing volunteers, as needed.
  • Work with Communications Manager to promote volunteer opportunities, workshops and other programs with Audubon’s constituents in Philadelphia via social media and targeted emails, and maintain database of contact information.
  • Work with Program Manager to increase programs and Audubon’s visibility in Philadelphia.
  • Work with Audubon Pennsylvania staff to align programming to the National Audubon strategies.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental studies, education or related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-3 years’ experience conducting education programs and community engagement; experience in conservation preferred.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills essential.
  • Experience working with a diverse audience, including children and adults.
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills with a positive attitude and good sense of humor.
  • Ability to work independently and in dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with GIS preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule; some travel, as well as evening and weekend hours, will be required.  Access to a personal vehicle preferred, but not required.
