Audubon Pennsylvania has been working in Philadelphia for more than 10 years, engaging Philadelphians in on-the-ground habitat work, environmental education in schools, and community planning projects. The Educator will lead and/or assist with education and outreach programs around the city, providing hands-on, place-based science lessons and activities to audiences of all ages.

This is a seasonal, part-time opportunity. The Educator will work from a home office in the greater Philadelphia area, and be directed and supervised by the Program Manager of Community Stewardship. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Deliver environmental education programs for students grades 2-8.
  • Coordinate lessons and activities for after-school environmental programs.
  • Lead educational activities for attendees of all ages at community festivals and events, including the Philadelphia Science Festival in April.
  • Assist with service learning projects throughout the city, including schoolyard habitat programs
  • Provide environmental programming on field trips for students grades 2-8.
  • Be a professional representative of Audubon at community events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental studies, education or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • 1-2 years' experience conducting education programs and community engagement; experience in conservation preferred.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills essential.
  • Experience working with a diverse audience, including children and adults.
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills with a positive attitude and good sense of humor.
  • Ability to work independently and in dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with GIS preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule; some travel, as well as evening and weekend hours, will be required.  Access to a personal vehicle preferred.
