Teach For America – Greater Philadelphia has successfully raised between $4M-$6M annually over the past three years from a committed base of individuals, foundations, and corporations.  We are seeking a Managing Director of Donor Relations to support the region in raising $4.1M this fiscal year with a significant fundraising increase in the coming year(s).

Our Managing Director of Donor Relations will bring expertise in continuing the support from our current donor base while engaging new donors in our work. He/she will be confident engaging directly with donors, as this role will be both internally and externally-facing. This position reports to the Managing Director, Development & Communications.

Areas of Responsibility: 

(90%) Portfolio Management and Donor Strategy

  • Contribute to the long–term regional development vision and strategic development plan
  • Manage diverse portfolio of major gifts, Sponsor A Teacher campaign, corporate and foundation donors
  • Create portfolio strategies to maintain 80% donor retention
  • Grow the portfolio by 30% over next 3 years
  • Manage donor data and engagements via Salesforce
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through one-on-one meetings, events, and strategic correspondence
  • Design a stewardship strategy to maintain our strong connections with existing donors and consistently engage new prospects
  • Prioritize donor engagements for the Executive Director

 (10%) Regional Team Responsibilities

  • Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including corps member selection and matriculation, corps member professional development Saturdays (4-5 per year), staff meetings, functional team meetings and retreats, conferences and regional pre-service for corps members (one week in June).
  • Minimal travel required (1-2 times per year)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 to 7 years of work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the education and philanthropic landscapes in Philadelphia preferred
  • Proven experience of achieving a substantial fundraising goal
  • Creating, sustaining, and managing relationships with major gift donors or high-net worth individuals

Skills and Approach to Work

  • You are a long-term strategic thinker who develops a strong charge for the role of Development and specifically our donor network in achieving the regional vision and designs a set of strategies & priorities to achieve it
  • You are a skillful manager of operations who is adept at managing up to the Executive Director, board members and other champions
  • You can develop systems to track progress, streamline communication, and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of team execution
  • You are committed to the local community, possess a thorough understanding of the local and national education reform movement, and are motivated by developing and mobilizing an external network in support of educational equity
  • You must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience and/or proficiency with SalesForce preferred
