As the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, you will work in collaboration with the Greater Philadelphia development team and regional team to support grant-based fundraising, other research and data analysis in service of our ambitious goal of raising over $4 million annually.  Responsibilities include: strategic planning, grant-writing and submission, reporting, management and stewardship for a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors; maintaining a data management system as a source for accurate donor relations updates, grant deadlines, funding strategies and goal setting; collaborating with the team on logistics, communications, donor cultivation/stewardship, and events; conducting research and analysis on donors and prospects and other regional activities.

This role is an opportunity to report to and work closely with the Managing Director of Development & Communications to hone essential grant-writing and development skills.  To be successful, the Director must be comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and be able to demonstrate leadership in various ever-changing settings.  Given the implications and importance of this work, we are seeking a highly organized individual with strong grant-writing, analytical and strategic thinking skills who is willing to work with others to go above and beyond expectations in order to meet goals. The ideal candidate will be motivated by building strong relationships with supporters while also being comfortable working behind-the-scenes, collaborating across regional teams, being a proactive problem solver, researching and analyzing data, and demonstrating a deep commitment to Teach For America’s mission and core values in their work. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Corporate & Foundation Portfolio Management and Support (75%)

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director of Development to craft a strategic plan for corporate and foundation giving in the Greater Philadelphia region
  • Identify and research new corporate and foundation prospects
  • Create a customized cultivation and stewardship plan for all prospects and donors including attending events, in-person meetings and other correspondence
  • Write accurate and compelling communications for prospects and donors, including grants, reports, letters of intent, and other correspondence
  • Support with other grant writing and reporting including AmeriCorps
  • Create and maintain a deadline-driven calendar of all activities related to corporate and foundation giving including research grant guidelines
  • Submit all grant materials and appropriate follow-up on time
  • Work towards establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with a specific subset of corporate contacts over time

Regional Data and Information Systems (20%)

  • Manage a comprehensive database (Salesforce platform) and files that include accurate and comprehensive donor information for your portfolio
  • Track progress to goal, in part by managing accurate and up-to-date records and data on donors, conducting analysis to identify what is driving and impeding progress, and working with the Managing Director of Development and the Executive Director to develop and implement solutions to address gaps
  • Optimize the use of Salesforce by staying current on upcoming enhancements, trends, and best practices
  • Deliver reporting and analysis as needed by Managing Director of Development and the Executive Director
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the program team to communicate impact to funders

Regional Team Responsibilities (5%)

  • Participate in all-day in-person interviews to help select new corps member/teacher applicants (about 8-10 days total throughout the year along with all other staff members)
  • Staff large-scale regional events such as corps member induction, often for a whole day or multiple days at a time
  • Attend and participate in all-staff team meetings and retreats
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5+ years in development specific work
  • Grant writing experience and strong technical writing skills required

Work Demands

  • 45-50 hours per week with increased hours during peak season (end of calendar and fiscal year)
  • Some evenings and weekends required
