The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is seeking a proactive, strategic, collaborative and resourceful Human Resources Director to provide leadership in assuring the effectiveness and efficiency of a safe, healthy, productive, positive and engaging environment for 35 full-time and 185 part-time staff members, volunteers, and other constituents of the growing Raritan Bay Area YMCA.

Under the guidance of the Senior Vice President, the Human Resources Director engages in and promotes the YMCA culture and mission through the core values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect and Faith. The Human Resources Director will consistently strive to demonstrate cause-driven leadership through the following YMCA Leadership Competencies - Mission Advancement; Collaboration; Operational Effectiveness and Personal Growth.  

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the waterfront city of Perth Amboy.   The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912.  We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Human Resources Director will:

  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient lines of employer/employee and volunteer communication in the Y voice to support staff in obtaining necessary and relevant information and resources.
  • Be familiar with and understand all standards as they apply to assuring a safe, healthy, productive, positive, engaging and legally compliant environment including compliance with all Y policies and procedures
  • Handle employee relations issues; coach and advise leaders; serve as internal consultant ensuring fair and equitable treatment of employees while minimizing the organization’s liability.
  • Assure that leadership regularly conducts internal monitoring and auditing for safety and other compliance issues and responds promptly to detected offenses, develop corrective action
  • Assure effectiveness in staff and volunteer development including reward systems both compensatory and non-compensatory.
  • Oversee Payroll processing by HR Coordinator
  • Effectively administrate all benefits including compliance with all regulations and policies internal and external
  • Work with the Leadership to assure efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of training
  • Assure efficient processing and updating of all employment/volunteer paperwork for both new and existing employees and volunteers working to assure timely documentation, certification, etc. are obtained and documented.
  • Assure effectiveness and compliance and alignment with culture and mission in Staff/Volunteer Recruitment
  • Assure effective, mission/value based on-boarding of staff and volunteers
  • Research and recommend, and upon approval, implement and communicate Policy changes as necessary.
  • Assure processing of workers compensation, unemployment, insurance and disability claims as required
  • Handle and/or assist with other administrative, and human resource issues as requested
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in Human Resources or Business or relevant internships a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate will be strategic, curious, possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to think analytically and critically, exceptional follow-up skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Certification SPHR or PHR preferred. Bilingual: English/Spanish a plus.   
Compensation/Benefits: 

The YMCA offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary commensurate with experience. 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00
