Under the direction of the Preschool Director, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for the delivery of a high-quality educational experience, using the Creative Curriculum, for the children and families under his/her care with the aid of a Teacher Assistant.
The Preschool Teacher will consistently strive to demonstrate cause-driven leadership through the following YMCA Leadership Competencies - Mission Advancement; Collaboration; Operational Effectiveness and Personal Growth. The Preschool Teacher engages in and promotes the YMCA mission through the core values: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect, and Faith.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Promote and incorporate the YMCA four core values: Caring-Honesty-Respect-Responsibility and Faith and character development model into all program activities.
- Must maintain compliance with the Creative Curriculum.
- Plan and conduct daily activities for children, with Preschool Director approval.
- Supervise and guide teacher assistants ensuring that they are working towards the YMCA mission and have a clear understanding of and follow the four core values, leading by example.
- Prepare developmentally appropriate educational material needed to implement the daily activities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, pleasant physical environment conducive to optimal growth and development of children.
- Observe, record, and evaluate children’s significant behavior.
- Supervise indoor-outdoor activities and nap periods.
- Attend staff and parent meetings and contribute to the meeting.
- Meet with individual parents at least twice yearly to report on child’s progress, discuss concerns with parents and act on those concerns.
- Administer first aid and supervise children’s personal hygiene.
- Oversee the administration of medication after receiving written permission from the parents or medical provider.
- Be responsible for all daily paperwork needed to maintain state code.
- Oversee all bathroom procedures, diapering, potty training, hand washing, etc.
- Show a professional enthusiasm for teaching.
- Be responsible for attending all mandatory workshops/meetings as well as those recommended by YMCA and/or Preschool Director.
- Learn to identify and report child abuse.
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of a child’s growth and development when working with children, recording activities, and talking with parents.
- Demonstrate, verbally and by role-modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Assists and participates in fundraising activities and special events.
Educational Background:
The Teacher shall have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and State of NJ Teaching Certification (preschool through grade three).
Skills/Experience:
- We will only respond to candidates with a State of NJ Teaching Certification (P-3).
- Previous experience teaching Pre-K children ages 3 to 5 years old preferably in a daycare setting is a MUST.
