We are seeking a proven, self-motivated, cause-driven professional to join our team. Under the direction of the YMCA's Senior Program Director and the Peoria Park Districts Aquatic Manager, the Aquatic Director is responsible for providing leadership to the specific areas of Aquatics for both organizations, including the development and management of Lifeguards, Swim Instructors and our Safety Around Water – Community Outreach Initiative. The Aquatic Director will drive superior program quality, ensuring all programs support membership, increasing program enrollments, and enhancing the member/participant experience.

The Aquatic Director will provide day to day operation management to the YMCA outdoor pool during the summer season and will assist the Peoria Park District's Aquatic Manager with the RiverPlex operations during their non-summer months. A key component of this unique roll will be to help unify both organizations in thier approach to providing consistent aquatic programming, developing a large and effective team of Lifegurads and ensuring that our joint Community Outreach Safety Around Water initiative is carried out effectively. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises Aquatic programming activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill objectives, including Swim Lessons and the YMCA’s Summer Swim Team.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. 
  • Work cohesively with the Peoria Park District Aquatic Manager to recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed within the aquatic departments for both the Y and the park district. 
  • Reviews and evaluates employee performance. 
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 
  • Responsible for daily pool operations and compliance to all state and local health & safety regulations. 
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool. Maintains accurate records for pool operation to include pool chemical checks and routine maintenance.
  • Ensures quality programming and member experience.
  • Responds to member and participant concerns in a timely manner, ensuring a positive program experience for members and participants. Anticipate and exceed expectations consistently throughout programs.
  • Participates in development of new programming, strategies, training, and execution of organizational plans to achieve strategic plan targets for programming. 
  • Responsible for achievement of program enrollment, and revenue to monitor and report on achievement of goals.
  • Develops and controls department budgets so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Assists in all other areas as assigned.
  • Manages associate schedules and payroll for departments ensuring efficient use of resources occurs within programs at all times.
  • Completes all job related, supervisory and other trainings as required. 
  • Ensures program standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. 
  • Ensures all program associates are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. 
  • Maintains proper records, including associate certifications, meetings, and trainings. 
  • Schedules associates and volunteers in accordance to safety and program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed.
  • Monitors programming to adhere to all state and local health & safety regulations.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS in Sports Management/Recreation/Health Sciences or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in aquatics with supervisory and payroll management experience preferred. 
  • Experience working in a YMCA or Park District aquatic environment, or a similar membership organization.
  • Proven results in increasing program quality and growth through exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of basic philosophy underlying a sound community aquatic program.  
  • Extensive knowledge of facility operations, including scheduling, programming, swim lessons, basic maintenance, and management procedures.
  • Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, while cultivating and retaining program participants.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with program prospects and others to achieve goals.
  • Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures.
  • Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
