The Director of Healthy Living provides leadership for all healthy living programs and staff. Serves as a member of the President/CEO’s leadership team, promoting services and programs to members and the community at large to meet established budget and revenue goals. The incumbent directs program operations/services ensuring quality delivery of healthy living programming, which meets the YMCA and community needs. The incumbent hires, supervises and trains staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Provides leadership and direction for a variety of healthy living programs/services for both adult and youth populations, including group exercise, wellness promotion, risk reduction, and supporting those with chronic disease reclaim their health. Promotes, supports, directs and educates staff, members and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize the health and well-being of the community, improve revenue potential and increase member retention.
  • Manages a high performing staff in building relationships to ensue delivery of quality programs and services are provided for all. Works closely with the Management team on innovative approaches in program development, and impact measurement. Utilize actionable information (data) to continuously drive improvement and implement plans to achieve desired goals, objectives and mission delivery.
  • Prepares and manages healthy living program budgets to assure revenue and program service goals are achieved.
  • Recruits, hires, on-boards, trains, develop and supervises healthy living staff, including Group Exercise Programs, Personal Trainers and Wellness Coaches.
  • Ensures a high level of expertise in healthy lifestyle modules, equipment, and customer service initiatives enhancing the member, guest and program participant experience and satisfaction.
  • Serves as a member of the management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of YMCA operations.
Educational Background: 
Degree in Health, Science and Recreation or related field - preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in Healthy Living programming with adult and youth populations
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Proven management ability in budget (finance) and staff management/development
  • Ability to work in highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment
  • Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of healthy living programs including fitness, strength, and health and wellness trends. Have specific knowledge and ability in fitness instruction as well as preventative measures in health and fitness. Demonstrated success engaging diverse populations in promoting healthy living programs and activities
  • Effective written communication skills. Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage programs aligning with YMCA mission delivery
Compensation/Benefits: 

$34,000.00 - $42,000.00
