Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Membership and Sales Director (the “Membership Director”) has primary responsibility for the overall organization, administration, development, marketing, supervision and implementation of YMCA membership services, recruitment and retention of members. Additional responsibilities include providing direct leadership and supervision to the Welcome Desk and Member Engagement staff at the branch. Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.
- Develop, implement and track results against comprehensive membership recruitment, marketing, sales and retention plans, monthly, quarterly and yearly as required. Work with the Member Engagement team to ensure monthly and yearly membership goals are met.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of the membership budget. Assures operation objectives are achieved and exercises appropriate controls for sound fiscal management. Recruit and coordinate volunteers for programs and fundraising including the Annual Campaign and Capital Campaign.
- Develop, implement and coordinate overall operations of the Welcome Desk, including quality standards and policies. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule and evaluate all Welcome Desk and Member Engagement Specialist staff to insure the highest standard of service. Provide training and direct leadership to all assigned staff in procedures, policies, philosophies and character development of the YMCA. Create and foster a Welcome Desk environment that is positive, professional, and member focused, ensuring excellence in member service and exceeding member expectations. Conduct regular staff meetings with all assigned staff.
- Work closely with administrative office personnel to ensure accuracy of all records and produced reports. Work with the technical support and program staff for registration of membership and programs. Supervise data collection and reporting efforts and ensure results meet or exceed Association benchmarks for membership.
- Work with office staff and fellow Leadership Team members to communicate changes, procedures, and information that will affect member service operations. Work with the Executive Director and fellow Leadership Team members to market and promote the YMCA internally and in the community/service area, as well as provide branch support for Association-wide efforts. Participate in all branch and Association meetings and events. Provide for appropriate facility coverage. Attend all staff functions and remain current in required and voluntary training in order to promote growth of mind and spirit and character values for all. Responsible for staff representation on the Membership Committee.
- Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals. Evaluate Seer Survey information; develop and manage Seer Survey action plans.
- Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals. Recognize and promote member service and retention as the primary responsibility of all staff. Develop excellent relationships with community organizations within our service area that will aid in spreading the word about YMCA mission, programs and initiatives. To further this effort, and when appropriate, serve as a volunteer at community events as a YMCA representative.
- The Membership Director must possess excellent organizational, communication, and supervisory skills and be committed to excellence in member service.
- The Membership Director must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with the Executive Director and fellow Leadership Team members in attracting and retaining members.
- The Membership Director must also be proficient in Microsoft Office and data base software systems.
- This individual must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. CPR is required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Salary: $43,264.00 - $46,644.00
