Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director of Marketing & Membership is responsible for developing an annual marketing and membership strategy and calendar for the YMCA of Metro North branches, and this includes the new Lynn YMCA, scheduled to open in the fall of 2020. This executive will be charged with executing the clearly defined marketing strategy in amanner that supports consistent business growth and enhances the Y brand equity and awareness. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the marketing functions to achieve the YMCA of Metro North’s objectives of membership growth, program sales growth, inclusion, and cause-driven brand visibility while ensuring a creative and consistent marketing message and position consistent with the association’s direction.
- Create and articulate a clear vision for the mission and goals of the YMCA of Metro North which inspire our community to join the YMCA as members, advocates, donors and supporters.
- Bring the Y brand vision to life through creative, innovative campaigns that drive revenue and build YMCA brand awareness.
- Develop content strategy for outbound marketing and communications, including websites, newsletters, online advertising, print advertising, and all digital media including website and social media.
- Develops annual operating goals, objectives and plans for the marketing and communications area. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
- Educates staff, volunteers, and members about the charitable nature of the Y; leads assigned aspects of the fundraising campaign.
- Works with new Lynn YMCA volunteers to develop and execute progressive marketing plan for the year leading up to the grand opening.
DIGITAL- WEB & Social Media
- Develop strategies to grow and engage audiences via online platforms (social media).
- Create, plan and manage the YMCA social media plans and oversees the project management and implementation of social media for the YMCA of Metro North.
- Social Media: Create creative and compelling content including videos, graphics and short stories that can be shared across multiple social media platform.
- Website: Assist, update and refresh Website, online presence and local community calendar.
- Create weekly emails promoting YMCA programs, classes and special events.
Media Relations and external communications
- Research, write and submit press releases, pitch story ideas and assist in raising the visibility of the YMCA
- External Communications- Media Relations: Establishes contacts with media representatives and writes and submits press releases when appropriate. Maintains updated files of YMCA’s media relations (both press and electronic).
- Engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community. Make public presentations about the YMCA.
Other Duties and expectations
- Act as a liaison between the branch program directors and the Marketing Department.
- Participate, attend and promote YMCA special events, community fairs, and health and wellness related events.
- Takes part in and solicits others to participate in the YMCA’s Annual Campaign and associated fundraising activities. Is responsible for participating and assisting in planning of community outreach and family events.
- Assist in the graphic design of print and digital marketing collateral for the whole association, including booklets, brochures, posters, flyers,
- Assume a lead role in publishing annual reports, previews, newsletters, website and other key marketing pieces.
- Direct Mail: Help manage direct mail campaigns including developing themes, organizing mailings, tracking results and coordinating with inside personnel
- Weekends/night may be required and flexibility in the work schedule is optimal.

Key Measuring Dimensions
- Research and analyze economic trends, member behaviors and habits and the demographic characteristics of all potential members, their preferences for association services and products and those of competitors.
- From the above data and analysis, identify, interpret, and capitalize on marketing trends. Develop and initiate new and creative marketing strategies.
- Measure the effectiveness of the marketing department and implement improvements as required.
- Develop and prepare key messaging and presentation material for senior management.
- Coach, mentor and raise the team’s ability to deliver and exceed expectations.
- Previous professional experience in membership, marketing and/or sales preferred.
- Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
- YMCA experience a plus, knowledge of YUSA branding standards preferred.
- Technology: Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Publisher, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design and other web-based editing software/content management system.
- Knowledge and experience with Content Management Systems (CMS – websites, forms, printing agencies) and HTML or word press web coding.
- Familiarity with social networking sites; experience in story-telling via short blogs and video.
- Demonstrated self-starter, sense of urgency, maturity, punctuality and follow-through, organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive material, yet creative and flexible.
- Previous experience preferred as a graphic designer, marketing assistant, media or in related field and experience preferred in a customer service, business office or related setting.
Salary: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00
