Under the general direction and supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Health & Wellness Director is responsible for the supervision and management of all facets of the Health & Wellness Department at the Saugus Family YMCA.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provide premiere membership experience, value, service, and retention programs by planning, budgeting, promoting and implementing all Health & Wellness initiatives including but not limited to: personal training, group exercise and fee based fitness programs.
- Jointly responsible for enhancing member relations and retention by working closely with the Membership Director and the team of Directors on the Saugus Campus.
- Develop, implement and oversee all Health and Wellness Programs that reflect the community’s needs and maintain the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and character development.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate fitness floor staff, group exercise instructors, and volunteers as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow.
- Develop and implement annual budgets for assigned program and membership areas, and manage agreed upon budgets within operating guidelines.
- Oversee purchases and maintain department related supplies within budget guidelines and maintain a clean and safe program area.
- Participate in staff meetings, support branch and YMN fundraising initiatives and attend professional training as appropriate.
- Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
- Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the fitness department.
- Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, or a related field.
Skills/Experience:
- At least three years of experience in instructing related programs.
- At least three years supervision experience
- Experience in personal training, group exercise and health and wellness programming.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff.
- At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Ability to be flexible to work evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays.
REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Redwoods Institute: Child Abuse Prevention & Harassment Prevention
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 30 days of employment.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00
