Under the direction of the Executive and Membership Director this postion's primary responsibility is for the fitness, group exercise and wellness programming & staffing of these areas at the branch. They will coordinate assigned programs and supervises staff in specified areas (wellness, fitness, active older adults, strength training, youth fitness,etc.) He/she oversees both departments and leads the staff to provide a sustainable level of excellence in character, customer service and execution of job duties. Ensures that programs operate in a quality manner consistent with YMCA guidelines. The Health and Wellness Dirctor acts as an advocate for health while putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spririt, mind and body for all. The "Y" values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith will be exemplifiiedin all aspects.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops innovative and creative fitness curriclum geared towards towards youth, teens, and adults, sometimesthinking out of the box.
  • Supervises and trains Fitness Instructos, personnal training staff and clerical staff. Runs monthly staff meetings and in-services.
  • Manages Health & Wellness Intern Program.
  • Teaches various classes/ training session each week.
  • Markets all H&W programs offered at the YMCA of Paterson.
  • REsponsible for the budget of all health & wellness programs.
  • Registers members into classes.
  • Regularly checks on the condition of the Strength and Conditiooning Room and orders new equipment as needed.
  • Develops offsite fitness for local community and Senior Centers.
  • Arranges for speakers and specialty programs and workshops for our members.
  • Speaks to various groups and at health events throughout the year.
  • Particpates in offsite health fairs.
  • Incorporates Y-USA health and wellness initatives into the YMCA of Paterson.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Responds to emergency situations and performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Ability to maintain a steady growth in program services with high PRECENTAGE OF RETURNING PARTICIPANTS.
  • Ability to oversee the administration of program services rending purposeful and coordinated programs.
  • Good public relations, sound financial conditions, and good equipment management.
  • Ability to develop a strong support staff and carry out the mission of the YMCA of Paterson.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Knowlwdge of emerging fitness trends highly desired.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse gropus of pepole from all agr, social and economic segments of the community necessary.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $15.00
