The AmeriCorps Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve Conservation Assistant working under the direction of the preserve manager will help provide outreach to local communities and provide environmental education experiences to preserve visitors. Will address conservation focus areas by identifying and treating invasive species and restoring wetland and grassland habitats. May also support groundwater and surface-water monitoring activities.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Designs, under the direction of the supervisor, and delivers environmental education and outreach curriculum to be used at community outreach events, at schools, and at the preserve
- Coordinates the planning and execution of various environmental outreach programs and presentations
- Performs environmental stewardship projects that address invasive species management, habitat restoration and native species protection
- This position does have recurring access to vulnerable populations
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Makes a positive community impact addressing environmental stewardship focus by meeting performance measures specified in the AmeriCorps grant for 2019-2020 awarded to The Nature Conservancy – Arizona
- Ensures visitors to the SE AZ Preserves are aware of the Conservancy’s mission and roles it plays in conservation and stewardship
- Support the annual Kids Camp at Ramsey Canyon Preserve
- Performs administrative functions necessary to produce educational materials, to maintain data, to provide reports of member performance measure results, to communicate with volunteers, staff and partners
- Works collaboratively with partner conservation organizations on habitat improvement projects
Skills/Experience:
- AmeriCorps members must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. National or Legal Permanent Residents
- Must be 18 years of age
- Experience coordinating projects
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interest in environmental conservation and education.
- Physically able to traverse and hike over rough terrain.
- Commitment to complete full term as AmeriCorps member
- Must possess valid driver’s license
- Criminal History check required and selection for the position is contingent upon review of results of the check.

Additional Information:
- This is a half-time position with minimum requirement of 900 hours of service and training for successful completion with a stipend for the full period of $6,996 paid bi-weekly. Training will include position specific and professional development training
- Benefits $3.047.50 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of the term of service; childcare coverage, if the member qualifies; student loan forbearance and interest payments, if the member qualifies

- This position cannot replace the position of an employee or a volunteer

- Performance reviews will be conducted mid-year and end-of-service year
