The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA is hired by and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The next leader must be an engaging leader who aligns resources and efforts that address the needs of the community. The CEO must have strong fiscal management experience, community outreach, strategic planning and leadership skills. The skills to take initiative, motivate, delegate and lead others successfully are also essential components.

Organization goals will be met by ensuring that ambitious funding, advocacy, membership development, community outreach and partnerships, as well as operational and financial plans, are implemented to create the highest impact program outcomes. By convening important community leaders, partners, funders, public, faith based, governmental and other nonprofits, the CEO will extend the organization’s reach and continually highlight the leadership role of the Y. Areas of Responsibility: 

Fiscal Management

  • Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position. Use high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading Y to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets.

Staff and Volunteer Development

  • Experienced leader with evidence of effective staff development through leading, motivating and coaching a committed staff team; deepens a positive performance and collaborative culture and has a track record of charting a visible, higher impact course. Exceptional communicator who enables all to feel their opinions count; able to tailor a message to the audience at hand with equal respect, and to generate action, engagement and excitement. Entrepreneurial, resourceful, results-oriented and capable of managing multiple high-profile projects simultaneously.

Advocate the Vision of the Y serving as a Cause-Driven Leader

  • Inspiring and mobilizing every community member and every Y staff member, program volunteer, board volunteer, and Y member—everywhere the Y has a presence—to make our communities stronger. Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers and be an active and integral member of the community. Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y and be seen and respected as a community leader.

Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and have personal values that are consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with the YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • Must have the ability to develop new programs and to review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and effectiveness in broadening our engagement with the communities in which we serve.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to be visionary as well.
  • Experience with endowment and ability to increase participation.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (or obtain within 3 years of employment).
  • Fiscally sound business management approach and proven track record.
  • Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
  • A track record of inspiring and developing volunteer boards.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $75,000 - $105,000, annualized. Benefits include a defined contribution plan with 12%; 11% total salary contributed by the association and 1% by the employee (when eligibility requirements are met).
